Default 98gt running rough after o/r h pipe install

I have a 98gt that just has minor mods, CAI, MSD coil packs and that's really about it for now. I purchased a BBK o/r h pipe and installed it and since then my car is running terrible. At first after the install it ran okay but definatley under powered, then after a few drives the CEL came on (obviously after h pipe install) and the car started running even worse, i stomp on the gas from a dead stop and not even a chirp, excelaration isn't there at all and it sounds like sh*t. Being this is my first mustang i'm assuming that i'm just having a tuning problem due to the fact that there is way more air flow than stock and my stock tune is trying to compensate and leaning out my a/f mixture. Like I said i'm a newbie and am just looking for insight. Could the purchase of a tuner with a custom tune (bama) fix this problem? I'll take all the help I can get.

Weird.. did you connect the 02 sensors?
Not much that can go wrong with a simple hpipe install.
Check to see that you also have good 02 but sounds like if 1 of them is not connected!
Did you take off the wires? Wrong firing order?

I would definitely give the install a once over and check for exhaust leaks and that all the O2's are good etc..

Running no tune with an O/R system will definitely throw a CEL which is one reason why your car isn't running right. A Bama custom tune will get rid of that CEL and deliver a ton of awesome improvements! Power, Torque, Acceleration, Drive ability, Gas mileage and so much more, just to list a few!

I hope this helps, give the Bama team a call if you have any questions! Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 9AM-5:30PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

So I checked my connections for the O2 sensors and everything is hooked up correctly. I'm going to run my codes today to see if possibly I have a bad sensor. My question now is would a bad O2 sensor cause my car to run so poorly?

Pretty sure I figured out what my problem was. I went to change my fuel filter since I haven't done it since I bought the car in September and god knows when the last time it was actually changed was, and after pulling the old filter off I noticed that the whole damn thing was full of water. The car was sitting for about 6 months before I bought it and in that time a lot of condensation must have built up. So I changed it and put some heat in with a tank of gas and it runs much better, still not 100% but I only drove it about 15 miles. Still getting that bama tuner though, ordering it tomorrow.

So the cars been in the garage for a while so I pulled it out to drive it since the weathers getting nicer and still have the same problem. I replaced the 02 sensors with oem and it still wants to do the same thing. Now i'm curious if it's possibly a bad maf, it runs great when cold but as soon as it warms up it runs like crap. I go to give it throttle and it just spits and sputters and barely accelerates if at all. It's getting really frustrating and i'm about to just take off the o/r h pipe and put the stock back on as all this trouble started the day I switched the mid pipe out. If anyone has any sort of input on this it would be appreciated as i'm losing my mind here and just want my car to run like it should!

If you get on the gas does it seem to run better once the RPMs get above 3k? I had a similar problem and it seems to have been ustream O2 sensors. Which ones did you replace?

No it doesn't get any better at any rpm, it struggles to even hit 3k rpm when its running crappy (warm) when it's cold it runs perfect. I replaced the upstream 02's. I'm just going to put the stock h pipe back on since all this started immediately after the o/r h pipe was installed. If it fixes it then great, no money out of pocket, but if not then I don't know, probably start replacing things piece by piece.
