Cool, I'm only at 15,000. I guess I'll plan on 30,000 just for good measure. I'm thinking Royal Purple - for my next oil change too. Since I've heard so many good things about it.

i have always heard that after you have a lot of miles on a motor and youve been using regular oil for the whole time, that its not a good idea to switch to synthetic oil... it doesnt saturate the seals as well and could cause them to crack and leak, big reason i didnt switch on my 83 convertable 5.0 with 150,000 on it.. my buddy had an eagle talon with like 130K on the motor and he switched to synthetic oil and 2 months down the road he was burning more oil then gas, then like the dumba$$ he is he didnt check it at all, the oil completely ran out and he trashed his motor... dont know if they are directly related but the exact thing happened that i was told would happen so my recommendation would be to not switch to synthetic on an older motor

ORIGINAL: redstallion

wal-mart sells super-tech brand fully synthetic oil...5 quart jug for about $12...

so i think i will try that stuff

worst case scenario i guess i'll go back to dino oil

also, is synthetic more likely to leak or have any other negative effects on an old engine???
i don't see how thats possible.....even the cheapest brand is $2.99 a quart....that might be a blend

absolutely go synthetic...power steering and rear gear lube as well.

you'll pick up a noticible gain in mpg, and the oil is still gold after 5k miles

not to mention that you can get 15w50 for those older cars that need to increase compression a little

i don't advocate the blends....go full or stay home
