no smog guy is gonna catch that at all....

my buddy did a 350 swap into a jimmy blazer and they welded the carb tag from a set of shorties to a set of long tube headers.

there ARE NO LONG TUBES SMOG LEGAL>>>PERIOD

it even passed the referee who has to do the big inspection for cali cars w/ an engine change.

so i wouldn't worry about it...it looks too stock for them to even think , to think about it
Not to mention...what year Jimmy? I think from 76 or 74 and older, smog is not needed on them.

It's not gonna do anything for emissions. It's all B.S.
Not entirely true. If he lives in Cali, and there is no C.A.R.B. sticker, smog techs WILL fail him on visual. Cali is really super tight on that stuff. I was the GM of a franchise of 5 shops. 4 had smog machines. BAR sends in undercovers all the time. If one of my techs passed one, I'd fire him. Either that or BAR would fine him and the frnchise. Do it enough times, and they lead you away in silver bracelets, and impound thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I have seen it happen.
I meant it's not going to emit more gases. I know that they can fail him for that.

Yes true. But before they even hook up the machine, EVERY vehicle has to pass a VISUAL inspection. If they see something out of place, or not approved by C.A.R.B., it fails. Automatically. And like I said, in Cali they are VERY strict. If something even LOOKS like it's not approved, ie: aftermarket part with no C.A.R.B. sticker, it fails.

Maybe not where you live, but here in Cali, they WILL catch it. It's a big hassle with fines and possible jail time if they don't. And since he and I both live in Cali, why take a chance. Somg tech's here are REAL skiddish on passing something that even MIGHT be illegal. Too much to lose.
that sucks if you know the right shop here in NC you can get anything passed, i passed with LT headers, no cats and race mufflers, its all about $$$ here

Used to be here too. Until they started sending offending smog tech's AND shop owners to jail. Cali has a reputation of having the toughest emissions regs in the country. And the toughest inspectors too.

i just moved from cali 2 months ago, thats what i was referring to, and fresno was doing the dyno smog b4 almost everyone else.

the jimmy was like an '87 or '88 and it had to go to the referee even.....not just a smog check station. it's '73 and older that is exempt

and i don't know what city you live in,but i lived in fresno and worked in the bay....i knew guys in all of northern cali that will "forget" about the viz and pass it as long it it's ok on the dyno.....$500 to pass regardless, but you had to leave it at the shop for a week

an hour after it's smogged, the tech is not liable for anything, he just says " nope , that wasn't on it when i checked it"

Ok i live in a state that did away with a safty inspecitions in 97 (there is no inspection what so ever) i have licenced a car that didn't even run at the time. so please help a dumass redneck understand somthing.

What keeps you from just swaping out all the parts for the inspection and when ya pass go home and swap every thing back?

I mean a xpipe is fairly easy to change so is intakes and other boltons hell if ya know what your doing a engine swap on a old 5.0 car can be done in a day(me and a friend did it more than once).
