Default 84 Mustang cranking problems

Hello good people,

I'm new to this as I just purchased a 84 Foxbody. I haven't had any problems out of if but I recently tried starting my 84 mustang LX & all I hear is a buzzing noise when I turn the car on (which eventually goes away) & then when I try to crank it a *click* sound is made. My head and taillights work while my signal lights, windshield wipers, & all other electrical components work as well. What could be the problem?

P.S. My ignition Cynlinder is completely destroyed so I'm cranking it with a screwdriver by shifting the grooves of the ignition. Any advice is appreciated.

If your battery is good, I'd check your battery cables for good/clean connections. Both at the battery, and where the negative cable grounds on the block. Then follow the positive cable to the starter relay, clean those connections, then finally follow the positive cable off the starter relay to the starter itself. Verify that connection is clean and tight.

If all those are good, you could try jumping the starter relay to see if that is the cause.

Then get that key switch replaced lol.

Good luck
