427 Side Oiler value
#4
The later ribbed service blocks have been known to suffer from core shift. There was a time when even a service block would have been worth over $5000. With the advent of alum blocks from various manufacturers I think the value has gone down. Being a service block, it is not exactly something that would go with a correct restoration. Good measurement of the bores and a sonic check might make it worth it to someone not wanting to pay the expense of an alloy block but still wants a 427 for their project. Personally, I love me a good FE. Where are you located?

It's in a 69 mach 1 scj now that I'm having restored back to it's original state. Apparently the original block was damaged when the 2nd owner bought it so he replaced the block with the 427 sideoiler. He reused the crank and heads. It's been garaged since 1982.

I've been going back and forth about it myself. I just keep thinking that going back would
make it worth more in the long run. I've found a date coded block that will work. Once the 427 is out and gone through, it may change my mind.
