I have the crankshaft pulley and harmonic balancer ordered online along with a new oem torque bolt. I can’t believe this isn’t mentioned more often when tracking a squeak. The squeak was literally the crank grinding down my sensor until it stopped responding. I now have all new pulleys, water pump, ac compressor and power steering pump. At least I have an engine with all new accessories. Do you think I’ll have to mess with the timing?
The crank pulley only install one way, it is keyed, with a notch in it. You should not have
to mess with timing.
You still were in time at the crank & cams, the timing ring just destroyed the sensor.
The timing mark ring must be what moved inward and hit the sensor, nothing else would
cause the whole thing to move inward. I guess you'll see when you compare the
two, please post a picture of them so we can see. Unless it moved inward on the
shaft collar there... Gotta see what it was, that way others will know.
I have reached the point of trying to get this crank pulley bolt off and it’s fighting me. Since it’s a right hand thread it should be lefty loosey but it’s not budging. It’s also funny that the oem bolt i purchased is a 18mm and the bolt I’m removing is a 19mm. I purchased a impact wrench with no luck. I’m debating the breaker bar against the ground and turning the ignition just for a second to force it but I’m concerned that much sudden force could snap the bolt right off.
Well I got the bolt off, I used the electric impact wrench with 650 foot pounds and it eventually came loose. The puller was interesting as I had to leave the bolt slightly still threaded so the puller had something to push against to remove the pulley and balancer. Once the pulley and balancer came
off I saw that the pulley had completely come free from the rubber balancer and the belt actually was riding the balancer instead of the pulley. I cleaned and oiled the crank and gently pushed the balancer into the shaft and used the old bolt to tighten it down. Now I have to install the bolt however I missed the part number by one letter and have to order the correct bolt even though the original looks fine. I’ve read you don’t need lock tite on the threading and the torque on the bolt is 33lbs, turn back half a turn and tighten again to 33lbs. Any opinions?
