Default Missing Brake Spring?

Installed Power Stop front rotors and pads on my '08 GT this weekend. Out of the box, a spring was popped off one of the pads, circled in photo below. Tried for about 30 minutes to get it back on but only managed to mangle it. During installation, same spring popped off another pad. Based on my unsuccessful attempts with the first one, and noticing my other non-Ford vehicles didn't have this clip, I installed the pads without the springs. Anyone else have this problem? Any issues without the spring?

As best as I can tell, the purpose is to push the pad away from the rotor when it isn't braking. Does it really apply enough pressure to push the pad away? Seems like it would have to push the piston back in as well, and doesn't seem strong enough to do so.

Thanks

Circled spring missing.

Without the spring to gently pull the pad away from the rotor, you may get uneven wear and possible noise from the pad as it drags on the surface of the rotor.

Contact the seller and get the bad pads exchanged.

Thanks Derf. When I searched yesterday, I didn't find much. But the "similar threads" suggestions below shed some more light on it.
