Default Blow Motor Resistor

I have a 2006 V6 that kept on blowing blower motor resistors. I replaced wiring, blower motor and a good amount of resistors. Honestly I really didn’t have a need to use the 2/3 settings so I just kind of left it. A couple of weeks ago on a trip my car went completely dark turns out the alternator was overcharging and was replaced. If the alternator was overcharging could that be the “smoking gun” that was causing higher power to and blowing the resistors? Thoughts?
