Default Headers vs stock manifolds

Hi all... newbie here. Would like your thoughts or advice. My '06 GT has BBK long tube headers with the BBK X piping. The passenger side header has rusted out right at the collector and I don't believe this can be repaired. I still have the stock mid section of the exhaust, including the catalytic converters. I'm undecided as to go back to a stock exhaust as I will need to purchase manifolds. My other choice is new headers (or a used header). It's my son's driver and he is on a budget. We will most likely be selling/upgrading the vehicle in the next year or so. The manifolds are obviously the more budget friendly option. Has anyone had any luck with used exhaust ... purchasing (used) and replacing one header might be the easiest installation? I'm leaning more to reverting to the stock set up, just looking for suggestions. Thx!

if it has long tubes, it would have been tuned to run with them. Changing to stock manifolds will require a tune back to factory or the car won't run right. If he doesn't have a tuner, that will need to be taking into consideration for the cost of reverting back to stock manifolds.

Well damn... I wonder what happened here?? One post and done. Probably just sold it. No way I would go thru the pain of installing stock manifolds back on. I'd take it to a muffler shop and pray for the best.

I see a lot of that when I look at older posts. There doesn't seem to be many opinions, one and done. I might have argued that the car wouldn't need a new tune because the computer would compensate and provide the correct air/fuel ratio automatically. The x-pipe would have to be modified or replaced and all that would have to be taken into consideration as well.

I found this thread looking for topics concerning X-Pipes. My BBK X-Pipe for my long tubes does not fit, at all. Cannot even bolt one side and attempt to bend it into the correct width. I sent them back and now I'm currently cross pipe(less). So it was open header day. I wanted to make sure my new smaller starter actually would start the car anyway. She started right up, idled, then died. Second attempt seemed to run much better but I didn't want to run it too long just on open headers. My BBK X-Pipe is on its way back to Summit Racing after speaking with them. I guess I'll roll the dice and just get another cross pipe and pray for the best.
