Default Rebuild tranny

Has anyone ever done this themselves? it's a 5 spd and it's getting close to 170K miles. It's getting some wierd noiuses and its not shifting into gears as smooth as it used too. I was wondering how hard this would be. Thanks.

Have you ever looked inside of a tranny?
I was going to rebuild a tranny off an old plymouth I used to have (old as in early 70's)...

Pulled the tranny pan, looked inside, and put the pan back on... it's a scary mess...

If you try it, be careful, label everything, read and reread all instructions many many times, have storage bins so you know where everything goes, etc...

GOOD LUCK!

Hmm the only time I saw a tranny was in a magazine and I know what you are talking about. Anyone else think it would be a bad idea to rebuild it myself. There is a shop around me that will take my old tranny and give me a rebuilt one for $700. Is that a good deal?
