The same modifications will benefit all motors.
How much power do you want to add, how much are you willing to spend?
Also, you would be better asking this in a Camaro forum.

RE: What Performance Mods...
why put a 305 in ur camaro? A buddy of mine has an RS 305 and its a low 15 second car. If you're gonna put an engine in it go for an LS1/6/2/7 and then u wont need many if any more mods. It probably isnt worth even trying to modify the V6 mang, just save ur money.

Yeah the 305 is a ****ty engine, and if your gonna spend the money to have it swapped, put something nice in. I saw a show on the new gto, and the ls6(?) or whatever is in it has 6 bolt mains (!) you could drive with the engine at WOT all day and nothing will happen, plus it makes 400 horse stock.

I wouldnt worry about modding a sixer now. If you do want to modify and you think that you will be dropping a V8 in the Same car eventually, you may want to mod the suspension to handle the V8. You need this to handle/ hook better and the V8 is heavier so it needs stiffer springs. Now, I am going by mustang V6s but teh 4.6L engine is about 100lbs heavier than a V6 so my friend swapped springs on his car to accomadate a V6.
Also, maybe a safe way would be to put a nitrous sytem in it. It will defintiely get you some go and you should be able to swap that onto a V8. Just make sure the kit you get is compatible. Finally, be careful with how big a shot to go on a stock V6. You will want to check a GM forum for this since I dont know GM as well as Ford.
These are my two suggestions to getting more go for your car now until you do the swap.
By the way, my vote is a LS1/2/6/7 if you are doing a swap. That would be sweet!!!!
Good luck.

RE: What Performance Mods...
first off, sorry to hear you have an '89 camaro, i don't like the body styles, but if it's what u like then rock with it. plus since the GM 572 came out, the other Gm engine prices dropped, especially the 454's. if i were u i'd just go to Autozone or some where like that and grab a crate 350, they are only like 2 grand, and i think u can finance(not sure). but i really wouldn't go with the 305 unless u got an old pick-up. good luck with it dude, and when u can get a stang. on the topic of modding the v6, i wouldn't bother. i assume it has a good bit of miles, so don't spend to much on something so old. and, i wouldn't bother sooping up a six anyway. the money u save in parts and gas could go to the v8. peace man.
