Help!! Snapping Clutch Cables

Help!! Snapping Clutch Cables
I have a stock 1996 Cobra. Has anybody else had problems with snapping clutch cables? I have replaced the cable about 4 or 5 times now in the last 20k miles. The last one I installed lasted about two years but it wasn't installed until after I had the tranny rebuilt. How many years should a clutch cable last? Any suggestions on what could be causing this problem. Thanks

RE: Help!! Snapping Clutch Cables
no its clear of everything, I should clarify, it isn't necessarily snapping the cable but rather the crimped on piece, on the end of the cable that connects to the quadrant is coming off of the cable and deeming it unusable. Thanks for the reply though.

RE: Help!! Snapping Clutch Cables
I've been researching cables and quadrants lately (gotta get rid of this POS plastic quadrant. It keeps going slack, and I have to reach up under the dash to adjust it), and from what I keep hearing/reading OEM cables are better quality than most aftermarket adjustables. I'm just going off what I hear, no experience yet, but I plan on getting a new quadrant and firewall adjuster, but I'm going to stick with my OEM cable...

RE: Help!! Snapping Clutch Cables
Had similiar problems in 97' Cobra. I went through Stang Suspension and Josh ordered for me Maximum Motorsport clutch cable and their firewall adjuster. Before that I snapped 2 cables and was constantly fooling withy other companies firewall adjuster. This cable and adjuster made a big difference and didn't cost any more than the others I had tried. Talk to josh and he will help you out. good luck. ps. Look underneath dash and make sure quadrant is lined up with cable at point it comes through firewall: if not lined up (in my case added spacer to line quadrant up) severe angle may be causing pre-mature failure at the lead end of the cable. Make sure to check that out. Also lubreicate cable at point it touches quadrant.
