way to heavy, 351 or a 347 stroker, at the most i would do a 351 to a 408, but that is still way to heavy.

Yup I agree, with the avalibility of parts for the 351/302 motors you are better off building one of those. Look around at all the really fast Stangs and you see that very few are running a 460 based motor

plenty of potential w/ a stroked 302 or stroked 351...but a 460 stang has , and will always probably be the fastest in the country.

My opinion is, it would be a terrible mistake.

First, the 460 is heavy.

Second, it is very wide, not sure it would fit.

Second, is a fuel injected, digital (computer controlled, not just electronic) ignition version even available? Realize that you forfiet a lot of driveability, a ton of fuel economy, and about 10%-20% potential for power if you give up both fuel injection and electronic computer controlled ignition.

Third, this is not a swap where you are going to find parts easy to find. headers will be a big headache. The engine is wide, the engine bay in your car narrow, and probably no one makes a set for this engine/body combo.

You will end up with a better car (lighter) and more HP if you go with a really good stroker or a SC'd stroker if you want a lot of HP, and even that would cost less.

I have seen pics of his cars, why does it matter what he drives? Lee seems to be pretty smart and into cars in general. Do you not think he should be here just cause he does not have a Stang?

There is a kit made to do the swap, but headers are very expensive and it is a tight fit and a pain to work on.

I highly doubt that. People think that just cause it is a big motor their car will automaticly be faster, weight needs to be takin in account and with a 460 the car will be nose heavy. Plus there are just not as many quality parts for the 460 vs the smaller motors. Price wise, my bet is that more power could be made with a 351 based stroker than a 460.

One local guy has a 460 in his fox...and it looks right at home belive it or not just requires a big hood.Stock shortblock freshend up truck heads very mild porting, mild flat tappet cam, single plain intake,850 carb,2 in. primary LT headers, 3in exhaust and it runs 7.30@92mph...Not to shabby not to mention the cool factor when the big cowl hood pops open. And he drives it everywhere.

Why? Because I love cars, just about all cars, particularly American V8s, and I grew up with Mustangs around everywhere. If I can ever find that "perfect" little 66 fastback Mustang Hi-Po 289 4-speed, I'm going to bring it home, but so far the hunt is as much fun as having the car would be.

And back on topic: it is possible to do anything if you have enough money, determination, and/or will accept a really screwed up car as a result: I knew a guy who stuffed a stroked 302 in a Bugeye Sprite (it was fast, and sometimes it even went where he pointed it). A 460 in a '90 Mustang strikes me as being in that category: something you can do but should only start if you really have alot of time, $$$, and talent.
