Well basically the maximum amount of material you want on your car is 12 mils, which is about 12 coats combined. For an average paint job that looks good, I wouldn't apply more than 3 coats of clear to keep cost down. Buffing on 3 coats of clear will leave a really nice finish. If you want an insanely shiny and deep finish, you can apply more coats of clear, like 5 or 6, but it just depends on how much you want to spend and how spectacular you want your finish to be.

I thought it was easier spraying the paint than the clear coat myself...... </P>


I had some minor problems with my clear that I used..... </P>

 

Spraying clear is a little harder than spraying color, because until you learn it real well you get runs. Just takes practice like anything else.
