Default 90k Engine Noise

I have 90k on my 99 SVT Cobra (4.6L). Noise started out as a squeeky tweety bird type noise. Then quickly turned into a valve tap or rocker arm tap noise. Started consuming oil at a good amount. Blue smoke on startup's.

What would be the reasonable explination and how would i go about fixing the problem?

Thanks
-Tony-

It could be a couple different things, but I think you have a burned or cracked piston. Address this problem asap. (It could be worse than that.[:'(])

Yea. i dont think its something THAT serious. where would the sound be coming from if it was that problem. upper or bottom of the motor?

Anyone else have an ideas?

Lifters mabye?

Might be lifters, but uh...you don't have any! It sounds like exactly what Birdie said.

When you have a knock with oil consumption, the diagnosis is not good....

It doesnt sound like a knock. It sounds more like a tick not a knocking noise. Started as a tweety bird noise and now its ticking from the upper motor.

as for oil comsumption, it went from no oil consumption to 4 quarts low over a couple weeks. (car takes 8 quarts)

The blue smoke is the key.

If the piston was cracked or burned wouldnt i be loosing compression in turn getting a missfire in that cylinder. and its blue smoke on startup, not a constant blue smoke. Its also an upper motor tick, so im leaning toward something within the cylinder heads mabye? any other ideas other then agreeing with the cracked/burned piston idea?

You could have issues with your heads (head) or block. But I doubt it.

Not necessarily.

we pulled the valve cover and didnt see much as the valves n things all look ok visually. guess the next step is to take the whole head apart?

Anyone know any way to tests the valves. Its narrowed down to one of the two back cylinders on the passenger side. Are there any marks on the valves or cams that would point out a problem?

Thanks for the help

tim37 - was just trying to get someone else's opionion/idea of the problem asking why what he said would be the problem. im questioning to get more information, not arguing.
