how much time difference on the 1/4 mile will a stock manual have over an auto for the 01 -04 mustang gt

when i first got my mustang i ran about 14.8 , but now it runs 14.2

a good driver can make a huge diffence with a 5 speed over a auto in a low hp car i mean any thing under about 450 hp. at that point a auto starts to show an advantage.

as far as 13's it really depends on your 60' times if they are fairly bad then yeah it could get you down there.

I agree, auto all the way for 1/4 mile times, manual is funner for DD, better for trackwork nd autocross but if your going for drag like me, auto is the way to go

at what point did he ask how fast a worked on auto would be?
im not trying to jump on anyone, but in EVERY SINGLE thread ever about manual transmissions vs autos STOCK,, someone throws in about a shftkit and a converter

if you can shift good enough on your street driven everyday mustang, then a manual is faster than a stock automatic transmission.

by how much depends on your 60' like tim said

i ran a 14.545 with a 2.226, then ran a 14.086 with a 2.05 60' with NO OTHER MODS except DR's

you should be able to break into the 13 with a good set of DR's.

yup i agree w/ that.

i have owned 6 mustangs...2 of them were aod's and i know from experience, that all my 5-speed cars put a complete a$$ hurting on my the auto's

by like a full second in the 1/4

now we are talking fox body...but comparable equipped.......aod went 14.40's....5-speed went 13.20's

anyways.....as far as dr's go

like stated b4....if your 60' sux..you can expect 2 tenths improvement of ET for every tenth 60' you can cut. (ball park...to a point)
so if your doing a 2.25......and you can get a 1.80 expect a 1/2 second improvement

well it depends how serious you are about drag, the auto is also gonna be more consistent, a thing manual will not insure, just a thought, any kind of league type drag races are done with auto cars, not manual

Well I guess there is a reason why you are always seeing this info. Its what was asked for plus more. Stock for Stock the standard will take the auto on the strip and the street.(YOU can stop reading now) For everyone else the auto with even gears alone would take a standard at the track but still not on the street. The auto shifts up fast but doesnt shift down as fast. Without a TC and gears an auto is very slow but can wake up fast. I have a tranny built for 750 with a 2800 stall and I kill standards at the track. But..the supercharger doesnt hurt either. Even N/A I was kicking butt-Shane

you show me where in teh FIRST thread, he asked what it would take to make a an auto faster than a manual

im not sure if youre trying to say an auto with gears is faster than a manual with gears in the 1/4,, if so,, why would you think that? a manual with a good driver can still outshift a auto with only gears
