Default Break in

Probably been asked before, but just wondering how to break in my 06 gt properly, or if new cars these days even need to be broken in.

Default RE: Break in

Drive the car so that the engine speed can be varied as much as possible below 60 mph for the first 50 miles. Then drive the car normally with no hard take-offs untill you get about 500 miles on the clock. Now change the oil to a full synthetic and change the filter. If you wnt to give yourself nightmares, look for metal in the bottom of the drain pan. There will be all manner of shavings and pieces of metal that used to be in the inside of the engine.Don't worry, this is normal.Drive the car for another 2000 miles and change the oil and filter again. There will be more metal in the drain pan, still don't worry.I change my oil at 5000 mile intervals because I drive mostly highway miles but if you drive mostly short trips you would want to change it more frequently.A good oil forum is www.bobistheoilguy.com
