Default Lexus Tranny issues

ya, its not a ford but its still a tech question. My dad's Lexus ES 300 with a 90 degree V6 has some tranny porblems. A few weeks ago it would not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear, he had it taken in for routine service, new filter, gakset, and fluid. Now, when the car first starts up it wont shift from 1st to 2nd. If it warms up and runs for a little while, it will shift but for the first 15minutes or so it wont shift. My dad said he left it in his office garage though all day and it was fine, its only in the morning. Could the cooling down have anything to do with it? Thanks guys

Number one, you really shouldn't just go the fluid/filter change route as it only changes a fraction of the entire tranny's fluid in its system. You need to go to a shop that offers the complete tranny back flush service that doesn't require the pan to be dropped at all. You will not believe how black the transmission fluid comes out when you do this service. Even now with the pan change and small amount of new fluid added, this service will still amaze you with the crap it cleans out of your entire tranny/torque converter, etc. Pep Boys has a special right now that you can't beat...after a rebate your final cost is only $69! I have seen as high as $150 for the same service elsewhere. Otherwise, most of the quick oil change shops also offer this same service. You stand to get alot better results out of this kind of service than what your Dad just had done. Try it, it is the cheapest way out. If you don't notice a big difference after a few days of driving, then a tranny shop definitely needs to look at it. There are a million and one different controls on a modern day auto transmission, most of which now shift electronically. Could just be some sort of sensor.
