Default 302 Swap Questions

ok i have an 1986 or 1987 mustang coupe and its got the 4 cyl. in it and ive got a 1985 302 block that i wanna build up and put in the car. i also have a T-5 trans that goes with the 302. Now my question is what all do i have to do to the coupe befor i can put the 302 engine and the T-5 trans in it? Some one told me to get new spring, shocks, struts, ment for the GT. And to get a new rear end and drive shaft. But i dont have $2000 to get a new rear end and thats a cheap on. so could i maybe just get one out of a junk GT model some where?

I also need to know what type of stuff to build the engine up with. Now i dont have alot of money to work with so i want a cheap build, but have enough power for when i want it.
Kinda like a drive on the nice days car yet still have enough power to do some street racing and win!!!

thanks for any help you can give me

read every thing you can. Don't spend money on 100 little things. 20 items for $5 each seldom net 5 hp each. Search for biggest bang for the buck.

Been there, done that.

I had a 79 once equipped with a 4 popper and swapped it out easily with the 302.
I'm not sure on your electronics - I kept mine simple.

The driveshaft SHOULD be the same. I kept my origional driveshaft & radiator.
You'll need motor mounts and a tranny mount - the tranny mount might be the same.

Some will tell you to change the cross member - I didn't. The dual exhaust fit just fine.

The biggest problem I had was getting the electronics to hook up right - it was my first time round and didn't know what needed "Always On" vs "Ignition On".

As far as the rear end, my 7.5 held up just fine. Granted I wasn't pushing huge amounts of hp to the rear wheels, but it did hold up.

The springs? Someone told you to change the springs? HA. Yeah, down the road you'll want to upgrade the suspension - but you can use the springs that are there. They will hold up just fine too. And the same for the struts & shocks.

I can tell that you want to do the conversion & slowly upgrade the car. It's easy to follow that path. Don't let them tell you that you have to upgrade all of it at once.

basicaly you will need every thing to make the engine run of coarse.

a set of motor mounts, a double hump cross memeber for teh tranny and thats all you will need to get it on the road the 4 cyl springs will hold up the 302 there isn't that much difffence in wieght. the rear end will last a little while but you won't be happy with it.

bigmudder-
i have a question.. how do u not kno wut year ur car is? espicially since the body styles changed between those two years.
and why are u making offers and whoring ppls threads in the classified forum? telling them the kbb value of their car.. im sure they already kno, but u cant get an accurate value on most older stangs these days.
