04 GT Intake Silencer?
What exactly is the factorys purpose for putting on the silencer. Its restricting airflow and i recently took it off, there was no sufficient noise change what so ever.
Taking it off opens up the mouth atleast 2 times more..
So what is its exact purpose for it being on there ?
Is there anything that i should/ shouldnt be doing with this thing? because it seems like its pointless to begin with

RE: 04 GT Intake Silencer?
it draws colder air in ( from outside the engine bay) also Ford put them on to and OTHER things on the car to underate its power and make insurance cheaper thus incouraging more people to buy mustangs
the mach 1 is rated at like 305hp* but actually makes 320*
Taking the silencer off adds 2hp

wait though... if you take that off, it will allow it to draw in a lot of the engine bay air, which is hot.... so yes it will have higher flow but hotter air... is this okay?
I have a 97 GT and am tempted to take my silencer off

RE: 04 GT Intake Silencer?
I cant think of anything other then that silencer...and the cats altho they are made for enviormental purposes so depending on what state you klive in you need to leave those on.
My 240sx had an AWFUL intake retriction on it and so did the exhaust, it had like a 2nd muffler.
the MAF and T/B are made smaller then they could be to operate at best production of power. Same with exhaust pipes.

restriction = less noise
intake silencer because reduced cabin noise is better than an extra 1/2 horsepower when selling cars
restrictive mufflers reduce noise in favor of that extra one horsepower
small exhaust pipes are cheaper than gigantic ones.

all true.
There is no advantage to leaving the air silencer on there but there is no real advantage to taking it off a basically stock car either. It's designed quite well to keep water out of the intake and away from the MAF.
It's a personal call.....take it off, leave it on. Who cares? You won't be any faster without it if that's your only mod.

That article's for a '99 4.6
Read it first, and don't do what everyone else does "oh... well maybe it didn't work for that car but it will definitely make more power on my car"
