Throttle sticking momentarly in 2002 3.8 L
Ok, so I purchased my first newer Mustang. It's a 2002 with the V-6, 5-speed, dual exhaust and GT hood. I noticed when I let off the gas to change gears, the RPM's don't drop for 1.5 to 2 seconds after I let off the gas peddle. The guy who had the Mustang did some work on it so I wonder if he messed with the computer or something?
Also, getting A LOT of water out of the exhaust when it is cold. It will wet an 1 square foot area of pavement out of each exhaust pipe when sitting. You can see the dropletts and a little bit of steam. It seems like a lot of water to me. Once it warms up, I have not noticed any water, but it could be there. The water looks clear and I don't smell anti-freeze. What ya think?

The first problem is the "hanging idle".There's a fix that works for a V8 but I don't know about V6's.You make a restrictor out of a copper pipe cap and stick it in the hose going into the IAC.
Water out the exhaust is normal for any car untill the engine and exhaust warm up to operating temp.

Is the throttle actually sticking or is the idle speed just hanging?
Raise the hood and remove the intake pipe. With the engine not running, move the throttle linkage open and closed.Feel for rough spots and anything that would interfere with the free movement of the throttle blade. If nothing is found, try quickly flipping the throttle open and allow it to snap shut.It should close all the way every time.
Replace the intake tube and make sure the throttle movement isn't restricted.Start the engine and move the throttle linkage to try to duplicate the hanging idle.If the idle still won't settle down make sure the throttle is closing the same way it did when the engine is shut down.
If the throttle is hanging open a small amount because of dirt or corrosion you can spray a little WD-40 onto the spring and throttle shaft to see if it helps. If it helps use a lube with more long lasting effects to permanently fix the problem.
