Specifically VW Rabbit transmissions. The car has been sitting for a while and doesnt shift into 5th. Alldata says it needs to be in 5th to get it apart. Hmmm IS there anyway to keep it from spinning so I can get the setscrew off of the main gear without hacking it up? I just need to get inside and see if its repairable. Of course, they used thread locker(as the Manual tells you too) and its a torx head setscrew, so Im hesistant to impact it. I as using an impact driver before, but It didnt do anything. Im considering using an impactgun, but Like I said, torx and impact guns dont agree.

yeah yeah I didnt want to register on ANOTHER forum lol. It was worth a try, and I think I got it though. The splines look to be the same as the inner CV joint splines, and since they wont be used again, Im going to take it apart and rig something up as a sort of holder. Hard to explain bhut I think you knwo what I mean.
