just a question about the V8
i am not here to dog mustangs to much, but i would really like to know why they come with such crappy horsepower? a 4.0 V6 at 210 (rating from ford) ? my 3.0 V6 300zx puts out somewhere around 220 (stock)? and the 4.6 V8 at 300 ? thats the same as my 3.5 V6 350z(also stock). The point i am getting at is why do those engines not put out more power ? yes i know tuned you can get alot, but so can i. How can ford not see that if they are going to put a V8 in somthing they need to make it have more power than the other V6 cars in its class ?(specially when my 2004 altima 3.5 beats them up and down the road minor work)if they would do that then i think they would actually be respected internationally like a 300zx TT or any other forgein car from its class. ( i am just touching on the power aspect, i won't even say anything about attempting to corner)
Ford replaced the 4.0l with a 3.0l that puts out 205hp. Ford also plans on increasing it to 225hp this summer. A car with the CVT transmission ie ford 500 will beat an audi in the same class that has 255hp. As for the v8 is concerned, the 4.6l motor used in the cobra without the supercharger is 320hp(390hp supercharged) while the 5.0l cammer motor is 500hp stock. The new shelby cobra coming out this summer will have 450+ hp. Lastly the Ford Gt has 550hp and can go over 200mph. So before you bash motors made by ford you should do alittle more research.
i ment the 2 base mustangs (v6 and v8)....the ones you can get brand new for under 30,000 dollars... if you want to start comparing higher price range cars we can get into what i can get used from porsche or bmw (M5 or M6 or M3) or alot of other higher end cars which all out preform the ford engines.. I do respect the Ford GT tho, it is a work of art.. i was shooting at the 30,000 dollar price range.
If you want to price compare. The 350z and the cobra mustang are about the same. 350z=285hp and and cobra=390hp. Personally I am not a big fan of foreign cars but I do like the 350z. Ran one once, wasn't much of a race though.
conver.... dur it will cost more, and not preform as well as. i have a hard top got it in 04 for 27 from the dealer. but this is getting off point, why does a 4.6 litter V8 not break 300 horses ? even if it is just a gt trim or whatever it should still break 300 horses. when a 3.0 v6 is at the same hp rating ? yes ford has a few nice engines. yes i love nissan and german cars so i am bais to them, but i still want to know why it takes americans more engine to the get the same amount of power as an european or japanese car? why didn't they instead of the pos 210 hp V6 make a turbo 4 that hit around 240 or so ? then instead of a V8 make a TT 6 that gets the same power but better gas milage ? It is somthing about american manufactures and not wanting to do what europeans are doing... when most of their cars are getting 90+ hp out of every cycl. and americans are getting 60 or less. it annoys me because i like the new stangs body i just dont want to get stuck with a car that i have to tune to beat the other stock cars in my class .... speically since i like road tracks.
You need to consider the application for the motor in question. Yes I agree that the v6 3.0L at 205 has low hp. But that motor is being used in a family sedan. If you take another v8 made by ford like the 5.0l cammer you have a naturally aspirated motor putting out 500hp. The topic is about motors right? Ford may have some low hp motors, but they also have some of the best out there. To say all ford motors are subpar is crazy. What is wrong with my 4.6L rated at 390hp, or others like the 5.4L at 550hp or the v10 at 600+hp. The list goes on. Ford motors can hang with any manufacturer out there. Challenge us and we will respond, prime example again is the Ford GT. You need to look at the whole picture before you try and bash all Ford motors. Anyway, I have yet to find an import in the price range of my Cobra able to beat me. Funny you metioned the bmw m3, which is 20k more. Ran one of those as well, beat him so bad his jaw dropped to his floor. Anyway, got to get going. Will pick this up later.
wouldent a TT v-6 be less reliable then an n/a v-8?
This is from Nissans web site. Both are base models.

Bottom line for the V6 - it's not meant for power, that's not the market the Mustang is in. Your V6 Mustang isn't made for racing or it'd have something bigger then a 7.5" rear axle. The market Ford is in for the V6 Mustang, are for people that want a Mustang, and don't need the power or don't want to pay for it one way or the other (car payment, Gas, or insurance). If people buy a V6 mustang because they love stags but want more then 15mpg, why would Ford make it a faster engine that burns more gas, creating a higher insurance premium??? Doesn't make sense for them to, considering the V6 Mustang sales have been absolutly great.
Oh by the way as far as your 350z conversation... I never got the chance to race a 350 stock, only when I had a tune and an intake... with a tune and an intake I absolutly MURDERED a couple of people from a 350z car club around here... While the specs are alike, the Stang is faster then the 350... Maybe it has something to do with the torque differance between the V6 and the V8...
