Came across this how-to yesterday, it's pretty good and doesn't look to bad. I'll tackle mine this weekend on jack stands.

I am glad you posted this. I have been considering this upgrade and after reading the link I will have it done. I'm mechanically challenged. But I can drive like a Bat Out Of H... [:@]

I had a Steeda Short Throw Shifter insalled this afternoon and it was well worth the time and money. Shifts are tight and I don't feel like I'm reaching into another county when going from second to third.

This is a cool article and the web page is detailed with great picture instructions, but finding the price of the part on the included web page sucks. Go ahead and point what what I missed, but I couldn't find the shifter through their part search and the only place I could find it was in the "catalog" - but again it didn't list the price.
On the flip side, I did a google for "hurst short throw shifter" and got a ton of results. Looks like you can pick one up for around $270.

I had mine installed by Slater's Mustangs in Texas and they have a reputation as one of the best in south east Texas. I asked for a Hurst and they said they would prefer not to instal one but would if that was really what I wanted. They recommended a Steeda and it cost $299. Like I said before, I am mechanically chalenged so I took their advise and am very satisfied with the results. I didn't really want the Hurst Eight Ball and the Steeda uses the stock shifter **** which raises it even higher than the Hurst without increasing the throw. My elbow doesn't hit the console anymore Anyway you go, it will be an improvement.

You can find them all over ebay for much cheaper than that.

The hurst isn't that difficult I did it in about an hour. it is a pain in the *** to get the stock shifter out and the short shifter in from inside your car. You kinda have to work it around until you find an angle that will allow you to slide it out. It's well worth it.
It comes with detailed instructions, good luck!
