just to make another point; none of us got a mustang for autocrossing...its great a evo can beat us in that..who cares??(i dont)?? these are 1/4 cars. I hate when people say stuff like that after you kick there ***. "well, i could beat you on autocross, or another track, or 1/8, 1 mile, or i could beat you going backwards"...god, you lost...FACE IT.

I almost bought an EVO before I got this stang. I love the EVO still, but you can't beat the look and the sound of this stang.

What kills me is the fact that you spend almost $30k for a car and just expect it to do one thing.... the 1/4 mile.....

if were talking about perfmance wise, the stang is know for the 1/4 mile, not autocross. evos, 350z's handle better and are more of a autocross type car. I got my mustang because its looks great, sounds, great, very quick for me, handles ok; but cars like evo's are made to have super great handling. but imo if a sports car looks ungly to me, its not worth it.

I happen to want to autocross my 05GT. I didn't buy it for that, but it is what I have to enjoy it. Undefeated, you say you know what you would need for auto-x....what would you do?

It might interest you to know that the current world champion in drift racing (hitherto dominated by imports) won the championship in an 05 mustang...

A good suspension plus a good driver would make the Stang a great car for road courses. If I wanted to beat a WRX or EVO in autocross, I'd supercharge my Focus...or buy a go-kart. AWD is for rally cars. Bury 'em in the dirt where they belong.

All I know is that a few people told me last summer that relitivly stock 05 GT stangs were staying with the e46 M3's and porsches up at lime and at the glen. Even if the mustang isnt quite as good of a road car (handling, braking, etc) which is proably isnt, it is nearly half the price of a new e46. Thats saying something. Getting out of a family members M3 and into the mustang, could I nitpick, sure, but the mustang is still more fun and costs alot less and can hang with the best of them. IMO the mustang is still a really good handling car by most standards.

And regarding evos and WRX's. I have killed a few in my mopar, havent had the stang long enough to try any. But usually by the time they spool up and get moving it is all over. There will always be faster cars out there. My friend has an evo. Looks wise IMHO it just doesent do it for me. Going for a ride, yes, it is quick, but I am used to cars with some torque. I dont like cars that feel like an average honda all the time until you are pounding on them. Just driving the mustang up an avenue in traffic is fun. But in truth it could use a little more displacement.
