I also wanted a manual and insisted I wouldn't even take a look at an automatic, but buying so late in the year like I did (just got mine Sunday the 14th), the dealers around here were having a hard time finding me a black with a manual....and I didn't feel like waiting for the '07 model to come out. Soooooo, I broke down and "settled" for the automatic, but I'm telling you, criticism be damned......I love it! It's quick as hell, responsive, smooth...man, it just wants to jump. The only thing I'm going to miss is the thrill of revving the hell out of it in 3rd gear (test drove a white manual and got her up to 70 in 3rd before the salesman crapped on me) and running past everyone, but after putting 200 miles on my auto the same day I bought it, I don't even think I'll miss that too much. The auto is sweet, so don't let anyone make you like less of a Mustang man for going with it if you decide to.

id go 5 speed also, nothing is more thrilling than mashing the gas and going through the gears, then downshifting ect... not to mention it saves you 995.00 that you can apply to mods and such. for the most part a 5 speed is worth about 2 tenths in the 1/4 mile, better mpg and less driveline hp loss. jmo
I just picked up my 06 Mustang GT and i always had autos and I wanted stick this time, so I was patient and finally found one in Tungsten Grey with Black Leather and I absolutley love it so far. I dont think I will ever get a auto again unless I can afford two cars then I would have both. Go with the STICK!! You will not be disappointed especially since you already had a stick.
i just want to play with this one, cause its funny.... i bought auto, and got made fun of. then comes a tune, few other cute little tricks, nothing extreme. changed the shifting like it was night and day. and .2 be damned, i aint lost to manual yet. not even with the help of any extra power. its been more than a nose of a lead. all im saying is, the autos shift so freakin fast nowadays, that unless you really really know what you're doing with a manual, and can drive it hard and shift in less than a blink of an eye, you're not gonna have the straight line advantage. but yeah, its more fun to really DRIVE it hard with a manual. then again, i like winning...
5 spd man!!!!! i think i can shift just as fast if not faster then the autos. My brother has a auto for his 05 v6 stang. and it does shift pretty fast but it can not down shift some times. It will end up down shifting one gear to low, rev up and shift again. the worst is when your crepping getting ready to turn and your off the breaks and gas w/ a car coming and you gun it but the car cant figure out to go in 1st or in 2nd where as a manuel, i would of been in my gear allready. and the #1 reason why manuel is better then auto is its 10x more fun to drive.
I was showing off my Roush s/c to a neighbor's family yesterday after church yesterday afternoon and my car died while idleing in the churh parking lot (right there in front of God and everybody)! Had it towed to the dealership after multiple embarrasing attempts to re-start.
I'm thinking fuel pump. The car cranks but will not start. Hope it's not a timing chain slip. I had that happen to a car years ago and it took out half the valves. This car only has 2K miles. I was about to take it in anyway because the front end groans during slow turns. Sounds like it's low on power steering fluid but it's not.
I guess I will find out Monday what each problem is.
Any guesses?

I used to swear by sticks - and stick shifts only. However, commuting if your car is a daily driver, dealing with children in the back seat, and other little things like that, I went for a stick this time. It kinda sucked as set up by Ford, but the Xcalibrator tune from Evolution Performance along with some 3.73's made a world of difference, and now I'm kind of spoiled. I wouldn't go back to shifting unless it was a weekend car. You don't relly lose much anyway since the new autos are 5 speeds, and you certainly can't shift manually any faster than the computer-driven automatic tranny can do it. If you're worried about losing the control you have with your launches at the drag strip, that can easily be corrected with a higher stall-speed converter.
