Default Money for SC

I was just wondering how you guys came up with the 5+ grand for a supercharger. I was thinking of borrowing it from my 401K and just pay myself back. I don't know how easy it is to do that. Maybe I should just save up for it. Hate waiting though.

My opinion is don't touch the 401K money!!! That would be your last resort for a major financial crisis which mods for the mustang would not qualify. If you have to borrow the money you can't afford it right now. JMO

+1 some guy are rich and some aren't. I'm certainly not rich. Eat hot dogs and top ramen for a year or two and save your money. I don't plan to add forced induction until I have 12-15k to build the motor to be twice as strong as it needs to be and maybe put a T-56. That won't be for some years though.

I had to borrow to buy the car, it isn't unusual to borrow for the supercharger, some people will never have that much cash available so borrow it. Borrowing on a 401k when you pay yourself back isn't that bad an option, unless all you have available is the amount for the S/C of course.

I agree with saving for the future, but we could die walking to our car to go home, sometimes you do things for the here and now as well. Noboy here bought a Mustang because it was sensible...

+1 again!!!

Don't touch the 401(k). There are usually penalties for withdrawing early. Find other means to squirrel away extra cash. Noodles-n-dogs is a good way, but better top off that healthy diet with a multivitamin and lots of water to dilute the sodium.

You can borrow up to 50% of your 401K and pay it back each pay period and there is no penalty. Actually, you can borrow more if it is for home improvement. You are not withdrawing the money, you are borrowing it. Big difference.

I just took 5K of the down payment I was gonna put on the car and kept it aside for the blower. Of course, I had a pretty good sack of change saved up before I went to the dealership in the first place.

I also advise not borrowing from your 401k unless it is an absolute emergency.

I sold some stock to buy both my car and my Saleen unit.

It also helps that I have no children and everything I own after working 20 years is paid off!!!

Put a little aside each month/week and pretty soon you can buy yourself a nice present!

Lets just say I've got about 30 minutes of seat time on mine and I am impressed!

Hope this helps.

Mike
