Technically and logically it makes sense. I have no idea if it is true but the computer does control every aspect of the cars performance so it would be easy to program it to take it a bit easier for the first 2,000 miles. Kind of like a “forced†break-in period you can’t do anything about…

It would be interesting to know from people who state they have a lag in performance due to the drive by wire. In other words some people say it seems like it takes a second or two after they smash the gas peddle until the motor goes. I wonder if it is more prominent before 2,000 miles.
My car's break-in period for the 1st 1000 miles involved winding out thru the gears every time I drove it, including a few trips to the redline. During that time I did notice a slight hesitation when flooring the loud pedal in 1st from a stop. Then, immediately after hitting the 1000 mile mark I installed an aftermarket CAI and tune, and the hesitation was history. Have 12 K miles on it now, and it still runs like a clock without a hint of any oil consumption, fluid leakage, engine noises, or anything else.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think some BMW's have something over 1,000 miles that it raises the governer...but I'm just recalling something i read, let alone if it was true or not...really my post can't help you at all...someday i'll learn to shut up.

I dont think that would be the same for our cars, becaus Im well under the 2000 mile mark, only 1200 atm, and I have already touched on 140 and speedo only goes to 145.

Like everyone else said, he's probably just mistaking the fact that an engine's components loosen up and run much smoother after a couple thousand miles. I have a 2005 Kawasaki ZX-6R that I bought brand new, and I've noticed a huge difference in the power of the bike since its gotten a few thousand on it (at about 4,500 miles, the bike now lofts the front wheel under heavy acceleration in first gear, and it never used to do this when it only had about 1000 miles on it)... so to say it has to do with the stang's ECU, eh... I doubt it, it's just the motor loosening up

I didn't know there was a CRUISE IN at the local RAX tonight. I saw it, and stopped by, lotta sweet ol cars, even a 68FB, RR, ***aro's etc. 1 05 6, and a 06 GT vert, I felt pretty cool when my 'STANG got some immediate attention. Anyway, the guy with the vert asks me how many mi ? I say 630. He sez "hurry up and get 2000 on it". Because at 2000 the computor adjusts, and let's full power to the engine. He could tell,....... I was like WTF ????

I really am skeptical about this. I've not read, heard or seen anything like this. Granted, they do "loosen" up some, and get a little faster with some miles on them. But,................. the computor "let's loose to full power ??"

ANYONE'S THOUGHTS ??? SOMEBODY, ANYBODY
I think it's false...the only way that would have any truth is if the cars computer 'switched' programs after 2000 to a more aggressive tune.

here's some other thoughts
- Maybe he babied it until 2000 then started stomping on it. If that's the case of course he woudl feel it because your cars ARE adaptive in that they make adjustments to the tune to match your driving habits
- Check with the dealers service center and ask about any type of 'break-in' mode on the computer that just 'disappears' after 2000mi.

Otherwise, it's in the guys head. Just like the ricers that 'feel' they get extra HP with a fartcan. Just doesn't happen.

Never heard of it, nor did my car act any different past 2000 miles.
