Default Pulleys

My question is are they worth it and how does it effect engine temp etc.? Ive been to a couple of different shops and both have given me different answers. One shop told me that the pulleys are not worth more than 3rwhp and that they slow down the water pump thus causing engine temps to be warmer than they should be. The other shop said i would get about 10rwhp and that they are a great mod that helps free up hp. So whats the real truth with the pulleys? I dont want engine temps any hotter. It gets really hot in socal. Also would changing the pulleys and water pump do the job. Thanx for all the help.

My *** dyno tells me 10 more rearwheel horsepower. I have no problems with mine.[sm=smiley20.gif]

they are worth it and are a one hr driveway install with basic hand tools (as long as one of them is a torque wrench and another is a puller rented from autozone). they slow down all the accessories, and the water pump a lil extra, so it is true that the pumping capabilities are greater. i've driven it in plenty of bumper-to-bumper traffic in LA and out here in sac and never overheated. one time i TRIED to overheat it and drove 40miles to the race track never below 3000rpm on a 95 degree summer day, and 15mles of that was traffic. i got the temp gauge needle to move from dead center to about 5/8 is all. i would not worry about it. it also increases the lifetime of the accessories because they spin slower.

i felt quite a noticeable gain immediately after installing it. it threw a "misfire" code in cylinders 3 and 5 after 5minutes. i reinstalled the stock tune, then reinstalled my custom tune, and a year later and 15k miles no problems.

I haven't had any issues, haven't heard of others either.

Although I did run a road course last week and it was in the upper 80's. The morning runs were fine, was a little cooler out, but the afternoon runs the gauge was going up 3/4 the way. Another stanger there with real temp gauges said he reads about 230 3/4 the way up. Not sure is it means mine is the same, but its something. 20 minutes of constant WOT/brake/turns Rpms 3500-6200 the entire time I could expect this from a basically stock motor with pullys.
So unless you plan on driving like that all the time, have no worries.

Since the pulleys slow down the water pump etc. Would doing pulleys and an electric water pump help compromise for the slowing down of the water pump (engine temps) that the pulley causes.

Im also considering pullies. If the pullies slow down the water pump, wouldnt putting on an electric water pump cancel out the hp you gain with the pulley. I also dont need any extra engine temp with all the summer heat.

Underdrive pulleys come with 2 pulleys, a smaller crank pulley that slows everything down and a larger water pump pulley that makes up for the crank pulley slowing it down so the water pump turns at or close to the stock speed.

I see. Ok that makes sense. Im still considering the water pump option along with the pulleys. Just wondering how that would go together. Anyone know or have the combo? were there any significant gains etc
