you dont by a sl600 for the same reason you buy a mustang...not even close

Yeah but the original post was about a race between the two so the comparison begins. The reason I buy a Mustang GT is obvious, the reason I buy an SL600 is I really want to meet the repossession officer and I want to mess up my credit.

I take it Harry_F 's dad is in a different league.

Uh, call me silly (and I have never raced someone I did not know and have not done it period since I was an idiot teenager), but it seems to me the motives for purchasing a car are irrelavant...

If one could excuse losing based on $'s of modifcation, then there is no point anyway (oh wait, it IS pointless what am I saying)...

But ignoring all that, we are not talking about a top-fuel match-up between 2 seasoned drivers... It is not going to be a "drivers" race...

So, there are no excuses...

Great post, but this is the technical section.
meaning the whole thread should get moved/removed by the topic *****?[sm=dontgetit.gif]

Or was that comment specific to my response?

I raced a 70-somthing Oldsmobile with a small block V8 in my 4-banger 80-something Chrysler Laser (1st gen!). I'm sure my race was something like the race mentioned above...

No offense, but you're putting a V12 up against a V8. It's like being happy that you beat a kid on a tricycle with your Ferrari...

If in fact the V12 TT runs 12.4 in the 1/4 mile then some N/A modded Mustangs will give it a good run. Most cars with s/c, turbo, NO2 will take it. My tuner has a customer with a 700 hp Cobra and an SL600 AMG (also 700+ hp). He said it's a close race but the Merc is quicker because it hooks up real well.

Frankly I just wanted to know what the guy does for a living.

Hey, in the kid's defense the Mustang challenged HIM! So he deserves what he got.

510HP and 612TRQ in the SL600 and the 'stang was only down by 1.5 car lengths?? That 'stang was still doing pretty good in my book! Unless you mean it was down by 1.5 car lengths at 60 feet.

I was spanked pretty good by a SL500[non AMG] in my 1994 GT a few months ago. I 'thought' my GT was quick enough to hang with it, was wrong, the old geezer driving the Mercedes had a big grin on his face when he slowed down, I still grin over how bad he beat me. My 1994 GT is still bone stock and still has the factory air-dam in the fender.
