an SL600 AMG (also 700+ hp). He said it's a close race but the Merc is quicker because it hooks up real well.

Frankly I just wanted to know what the guy does for a living.

not to be nit-picky(spelling?) but its sl65 AMG and it has 604 hp and 700+ lbs of torque (approx.). my dad will soon be getting the renntech chip which basically add more boost. under merc. warranty it will have 625 hp. so faster than an sl64. i think it gives it 740 lbs of torque.

im not trying to compare. and yes the v12 is insane. it will spin the 11 in. wide tires at 60 mph.

He just retired like a month ago. but he was financial advisor for corporations.

Not to nitpick more, but there is an SL600.

[edit]
Oops! Not an AMG, though![&:]

sl 500:base $90,000
sl 600: v12 engine 5.5L TT keyless go, suede headline, all leather everything, all standard $140,000

both models come with amg body and wheels package optional like pictured in my first post. its a new front bumper side skirts wheels, and rear bumper. 7,000% extra
4
then sl55: v8 supercharged, 510 hp, AMG body, wheels, sporty gauges. (slower from sl 600) $120,000
sl65: v12 engine also TT, but 6.0l, more boost than sl600, AMG body/wheels, sporty gauges, and optional amg leather package. 189,000$

theres all the nitpicking.

I just wish I had that 140k to spend on a car.

Then my Mustang would be modded to the extreme just like I want, and I'd still have 70-80k to dump into my house

Man, nice rides :P

I bet if I put 510 ponies in my Stang.....I would whip the **** out of your 12.4 second quarter mile time!

Wait until I return to the states and install a few (a lot more than a few actually) of these parts I have been purchasing over the past few months. Look me up, and me and your pops can meet up somewhere and see what his lil girl has really got.

I know we are talking about the SL600, but the SL500 can be taken by a 2005 Mustang GT even stock. I know, because I beat my sisters. But here is some magazine racing to back me up in my claim:

this is from fast-autos.net

2003 SL 500

302 bhp @ 5400 rpm
339 lb-ft @2700 rpm

Weight 4012 lbs

0-60: 6.1 sec
1/4mile: 14.5 secs

However the new 2007 SL500 has 388 hp and 391 ft-lbs still heavy, but all bets are off on that one.

The weakness (if you really can call it that) of the SLs is that they are tanks!

you can allways get the sl biturbo upgrade from brabus it gives it 735 hp. and 900+ lbs of torque.

i guess tank is a pro or con. ive only driven the car once by myself, and twice with him in it, its insane fast.

Yeah I know they are fast, but I shifted focus of my topic to the 2003-2006 SL 500. A 2 ton car with only 303 hp isn't going to be too fast. 510hp @ 2 tons.... that is something different. Hey the Shelby has 500hp and weighs almost 2 tons, hmm.....

I've been in a SL65 AMG with my brother-in-law and that thing rocks. I don't know how hard he was pushing it, but hiting the onramp to the freeway was intense. Plus the suede roof upholstery was a nice touch too.

What the hell are you going to do with 700+ horsepower? That's a bit of overkill for a car dont you think? The drag racing is only fun for a few trips down the strip a night. After that, its just repetitious stomping on the gas and shifting gears. Anyways, I will be completely satisfied with my 450HP 06GT.
