soooo, do you know anyone who would put N2O in their car, and not use it all the time? i'm sure you do, since N2O is way more expensive than having to fill up ur tank more often (well maybe not with these gas prices). if you don't want to burn more gas with a turbo, don't go into the upper band. simple. it's the same as not switchin on your N2O every chance you get. If you can't resist the temptation, then you're the one to blame, not the turbo.

And if you drive your car like you stole it all the time, you're gonna get really bad mpg regardless of whether or not you have a turbo.

yeah, i dont know anyone who would put a turbo on there car and not use it. anytime that boost guage goes past zero your getting less mpg's then a N/A setup. i cant drive a car with power like a hearse. if my car has boost im rolling into it. and that needle isnt gonna read vacuum unless im at a light or in a parking lot. because i like turbo spool. if a put a turbo on my s197. i would get 9mpg or less average.

just to clarify, only a supercharger reduces mpg, due to parasitic loss from the belts. Turbos will usually increase mpg or at least leave it as is (although it sometimes can lower mpg, due to lead foot syndrome).

Sidewayz6.0---I have Mac ab's. so far for exhaust. I see what you mean with the straw example, GOOD ONE! Hmmmmm, if I do 4:10s and the headers do you or anyone think I will get any hp gaine from that install? I know the gears will just help me get into the power band quicker or something but to be honest I still dont know how that works. I dont know if it means I have to shift faster than I would with stock or it means I can stay in a gear longer than I would with stock??

As for the headers I asked Brent from Brenspeed (well thats not true, it was Dave now that I think about it) Dave said they have not ran any specific test yet to see what the gain if any would be. They are schedule to take place soon. I guess before and after Dyno? So he could not answer me with fact statement on hp gain with the Lt's. Again, off topic from colder plugs but you guys have the answers right here so I dont want to waist a new post. Thanks
You're going to see a gain with the Headers and Exhaust. How much? Hard to say. But you will see something. The gears will actually read a loss of HP on a dyno. That doesn't mean anything. It's just a different ratio, so it shows differently. You don't actually lose HP. As for how you'll have to shift, whats going to happen is say...Normally, when you're driving around town you're using mostly 2nd & 3rd gear right? Driving the same way, you'll be using 3rd & 4th more often now. It doesn't mean shifting more, it's just shifting between different gears. You will have to shift earlier from a stop because the redline will come up faster. But thats just because you're accelerating faster. Believe me, you're going to love a 4.10 gear. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. You'll be so disappointed with anything less. And to be honest, if you were never going to spray the car, I'd put a 4.30 in it. But stick with the 4.10 for a power adder.

Thanks for the detailed info. I never really understood what would happen when I changed gears. I do now. I understand that its hard to say how much gain (hp) with this setup. (gears LTs) Mind taken a guess? Would a 10 to 20 gain sound resonable? One other thing I PROMISE! I heard that the header work is a all day job, like 8 hours. True?

gears won't help the hp . . .

LT's will give you up to 15 rwhp

Yeah I know, I menetioned that a couple of post earlier,(no hp from gears) Its just the way I worded the hp question I guess that makes it look like I thought that. Just ment when I do that install what will I walk away with. I was hoping around that amount or a little more..

Thanks

oh i definitely agree with u, the only time i drive around like a sane person is when i have a girl in the car. i'm just saying that its not the addition of a turbo that's reducing the mpg, its the driving style.

I didn't like the idea of the bottle when I got my 05GT. I went the traditional way and put a good old Vortech kit in it. We got a little stupid with the boost and blew the engine after 2 days running 14psi. The 2 days were REALLY good but just a little expensive.....

I'm down to 8 pounds now but would like to get that 14PSI feeling when Z06 moments show up. If I add a 75 shot to my 8 PSI, would the engine take it?

Anybody in here went that way? How big of a deal is it to run both?

How much HP are you putting down with 8PSI?
