Default Pinging with C&L/93 Octane Tune

I've got the C&L Intake with a 93 octane tune from Brenspeed.

The other day as I was driving under an underpass, I noticed no cars were around so I thought I would let the Bassani's howl. I floored it as I went under and when I hit about 5500 RPMs, I heard a metallic kind of a sound from the engine, just for an instant and then it stopped. From what I understand, this is likely pinging? I tried to convince myself it was just my air intake whistling or something, but it definitely did not sound right.

Now I am worried about this tune. I know I filled up with 93 gas. Do I really need to get a dyno tune now to make sure I don't screw up my engine? And do I need to worry that I have already damaged my engine, or is hearing this just once not that big of a deal?

Should I dial it down to an 89 tune and keep filling up with 93 just to be safe, until I can get a proper dyno tune?

And, as a last question, what performance difference have people noticed between a canned 93 octane tune and a custom dyno tune? I'd like to think that in addition to the peace of mind that my engine is running right that I will get some additional HP or TQ.

You may have filled up with some bad/mislabeled gas(lower octane fuel was dumped into the station's 93 octane tank). Happened to me once.
Try different brands of gasoline first. If that does not help, then back off the global timing a degree or 2 like V8 Aggie suggests.

Mine did it too but I went to the 87 tune and used the high octane gas and it runs like a gorilla through a jungle. By the way he assured me that if it isn't pinging that its better to leave it alone. So I did. I do feel the difference. Before I don't think I was getting the horsepower. He did offer to make a new tune but heck if its not pinging I'm just leaving it alone. In my opinion these canned tunes couldn't be as good as getting one from a dyno outfit but I don't know of a good place to go for now. I like to one day go to brenspeed's shop for one.

Pinging sounds more like a rattle.
