Weight
-----------
Magnum: ~4260 lbs
Charger: ~4160 lbs
Mustang: ~3356 lbs
I hate the magnum and charger but I think the GT mustang weighs about 3,700lbs. This is still quite a bit lighter than the other four door trash. At a light or from a dead stop is the real racing. Especially for dragsters. It’s the torque to get wheels moving.

Motor Trend puts the GT Coupe Deluxe at 3483 lbs. The V6 weighs in at 3373 lbs.

Anyone who races on the street/highway, from a dig or role, is a *** who doesn't have the ***** to take it to the track.

Hmm, got my numbers from KBB. Ford only had some of the numbers, and vehix...well we won't go there.

I never understood why racing from a roll is rice, hell I am sure in the 50's people races from a roll and I think that is way before imports started catching up.

Att. Andrew
People used to sometimes race from a roll back then because:
1) Tire width was between 4"-6"
2) Drag race suspension was in it's infancy and most hot rods used factory stock suspensions on the street.
3) Ford street rods were notorious for puking the close-ratio Zephyr gears in their 3-speed trannys out on the street from drag racing and so they would race from a roll to save them.

There is something to be said for a car that has the torque to really pull when both cars are on the move. It comes in quite handy in passing cars obviously but IMO a planned speed contest should be from a standing start.

One technique that was used in the '50s era was best 2 out of 3 races to test not only quickness but endurance as well. A lot of times the first one would be from a standing start, second from a 10MPH roll and third from a roll with one car handicapped. Kinda like on "Pinks". They used this asphalt dyno to tune their cars.

I know this thread has migrated to a different topic, but I am still wondering how the guy knows he was running an SRT-8 and not an R/T, it was debaged.....furthermore the Dodge Magnum doesn't offer AWD in the SRT-8 trim. AWD is only available in the R/T and SXT.....

As far as the Dodge Charger SRT-8 goes.

It may weigh 4160lbs, but with 425 horses its power to weight ratio is about 9.79 lbs/hp

The Mustang GT power to weight ratio is 3480lbs/300hp = 11.6 lbs/hp.

It sucks, I know, but the SRT-8 models have more than enough power to get that weight moving.

Sometimes I think the new Charger/Magnum somehow went horribly wrong. It seems they put weight as a low-priority focus. Too bad, really. If it weighed in more like the 'Stang, it'd be that much more killer. It's still a friggen brick on wheels.

This may just be my inexperience with American muscle cars, but it seems to me that if you want more power and speed, you'd also want lighter, too. When I'm overseas, I usually rent an Audi. They're nice because they're best of all worlds. Lots of power (300+), and relatively light. Get on the Bahn and it's like Thai food to the bathroom...

Eh, in the end, as long as it attracts chicks, right?

If you notice, it's priority isn't it being a muscle car, it's a commuter car they stuck a big motor in drum up sales...and guess what? It worked. So I'll hand it to Dodge for that. Now when the Challenger comes out, it'll probably be heavy too since it's based on the same platform, so you can talk then.
