Winter Storage
I'm thinking about getting one of these. I already have one for my Harley and it's great.

Interesting about the steel wool in the exhaust and foil over the air cleaner. I have had mice issues in both of my other cars. I was also told that the mice can climb up inside the engine compartment and squeeze in through the firewall.
One thing i am trying this winter is to have 3 of those sonic air horns in the garage...high pitch sound that supposedly keeps mice out. An of course i use at least one standbye...A TRAP loaded with peanut butter. i check it once a day.

When i had the 350ci in my GMC i parked it for the winter. Come spring the thing wouldnt barely run, i found a small hole in the air cleaner, then i took off the intake manifold and found mice hand nested in there over the winter. Almost had to rebuild the whole top end of the motor. So tin foil everytime now.
MICE:
I had a mice issue when I had my Lightning one got up into the air box. So a few things to solve that:
Make sure there is NO food source in your garage no dog, cat food etc. If you keep the trash down there until trash day make sure it is in one of those big plastic garbage cans with a lid. I had dog food in the garage and the mice brought it up into the air box. Mice will generally not make a home somewhere unless they can get to a food source easy.
Now, some may laugh, but this has worked for me at keeping mice away from my Lightning before I sold it and will keep them away from my Mustang. Mice hate those static sheets used in the dryer like Bounce or any brand of those static sheets. When I had my Lightning I used mouse traps with peanut butter to catch the little basturds and I would catch about 5 – 8 of them. Most likely it was not a good idea because I basically gave the mice a food source that brought them into the garage.
Last year I tried the static/fabric sheets and placed a few by each side of the garage door where mice could squeeze in. I also placed the sheets by the wheels, 4 per each wheel, each side of the wheel. The wheels are where the mice will climb onto the vehicle. Then I also placed about 5 mouse traps with NO peanut butter on them by the garage door, each side, so there was no way they would make it past the traps.
To see how well it was working after a month I put some peanut butter on the traps and still caught none. Remember for 2 winters before this I would catch 5 – 8 mice. Last year none, no mouse crap anywhere not even on the motor.
To make sure mice don’t get into the vehicle make sure all windows are completely closed and also when the car is running turn on the AC. Leave it on and shut the car off and this will close off the ventilation so there is no way a mouse could get into the car. Since the Mustangs have the air filter for the ventilation that may stop them as well but the Lightning did not have an air filter for the ventilation.
The most important thing though is to insure there is NO food sources in the garage and that’s a huge step in keeping them out of the garage. If you have any food sources, like I said, including dog or cat food etc. make sure it’s in a sealed container.

My personal storage tips:
If your garage floors foundation is dirt (most are but Ranch homes usually have a crawl space so its not direct on the ground) if the foundation of the concrete is dirt then put down a large plastic tarp, big enough for the car to be on. This will act as a moisture barrier. Concrete will let moisture seep through it and it can cause corrosion on the undercarriage.
Change the engine oil as used oil will have contaminates, such as moisture, and you don’t want to keep that in there during storage. Change the oil so it’s fresh.
Wash the car and polish/wax it.
Clean the inside.
Fill up the gas tank and put some fuel stabilizer in it.
Air the tires up to 45 – 50psi. This will help to prevent possible flat spots. Even if you were to develop flat spots they will work out within 2 – 5 miles of driving. You don’t have to worry about flat spots ruining radial tires as they would the old bias tires.
If you have a nice car cover then cover the vehicle.
Put steal wool in the exhaust tips or cover them with tin foil (keeps mice out)
Connected a battery tender to the battery. They generally cost about $30 - $40 and you just plug them in and forget about them as they will automatically keep the battery good.
That’s a few things off the top of my head…
