Is it true that S197s really don't sound that great?

Cherry bombs are glass packs - very loud and seem to be popular on lifted 4X4s. They pop when the engine revs down. The cats might calm them a bit but you could get the same effect by replacing the mufflers with resonators. They're the same thing because they are glasspacks but with shorter bodies.

The irony of this thread........do any of you remember when Ford was developing the S197's exhaust note that they listened to countless hours of all the classic Mustangs of the past and went with the Shelby GT350 note? I realize it's not exact, but I find the stock note rather pleasing and not too overbearing....I guess age would have something to do with this

I have no idea what exhaust this is, but I remember seeing this right when the 05's first came out! I was suprised to find this video all over again too! Anyway I hope you all enjoy it like I did!!

I totally agree with 05GTDriver, the exhaust note sells these cars! Even the V6 has a nice note from the factory. When I was mentioning ways to make it sound like a big block I was remembering what the dual exhaust with turbo mufflers sounded like on my '64 Galaxie 500 fastback's 390. Sometimes I would fire it up and just listen to it at the back of the car. It was quiet but had a nice bassy burble. With that long trunk you didn't hear it so much in the car.

I think they sound pretty damn cool.....low revving, deep burble, call me crazy, but the 390 big block(with factory duals) has a very pleasing, very FORD sound. Very distinctive.

Set a low unstable idle with your tuner. It's likely to throw a code if you go below 750 though.

They dont sound like any 60's big block car I have if that is what you are asking. It has a nice tone to it stock IMO. Sounds good. With the CAI and tune it screams at high RPM's almost porsche or M3 like.
The new stang needs a tougher sound at idle. But then again, so does pretty much everything else new I can think of including the vette. None of them have that rumble just sitting there.

Why not try a side exiting exhaust? Not sure what they would sound like on an S197, but at least it wouldn't have the mufflers in the rear, like currently. I've grown up around muscle my whole life, I think every generation of V-8 powered cars have their unique sounds characteristics......btw a guy that owns a new Z06 parks in the same garage as I has an aftermarket exhaust on it and man, let me tell you, that car sounds nothing like a vintage V-8 muscle car.....but it sounds WAY EVIL! Besides, for myself, I find the new Mustang completely satisfying(I'm in my 40's) in it's exhaust note/tone. Sounds like a V-8 to me.

Ask and ye shall receive, here is a MUCH better video of the side exhaust its pretty much a little bit of revving and dumping the clutch around 3,400 RPM with a shift to 2nd at 6,400 RPM and then a nice shift into 3rd. The sweet thing to listen for is with this exhaust when you catch a "perfect shift" it will do a real loud back pressure pop in between gears, I got it from first to second and it sounds sweet, and you can hear it clear as day! So turn up your volume and let me know what you think!
