Default Conoco Gasoline

Not sure if this brand of gas is nationwide, but has anyone heard of any problems using Conoco gas with a 91 tune? (We don't have much 93 in AZ.) I have used it before in my sentra and contour, but those are b*tch *** cars compared to an 06 MGT and I'd hate to put in a tank of gas that is going to make me ping the hell out of my engine once I get my CAI and Stingers on this afternoon.

The reason I ask is they are over 10 cents cheaper than all the other stations around me...I could fill up on 91 for damn near the same price of 87 at the other places.

Thanks!

I think those cheaper gases are made with a corn blend. Ethanol I believe. I don't know if it's better or worse. Basically I don't know much of anything. Glad I could help.

Most of the country is going to the corn blend 10% ethanol, execpt those states with more stringent emmisions requirements, they have a higher ethanol content. Ethanol is an oxygenator, it can cause higher o2 readings resulting in a lean reading in the computer when it is not really there. The computer will run more gas to compensate, so you wont run lean, but you can lose some milage on the older cars. My 99 responded well to disconnecting the battery after the gas switch so it could relearn the new a/f curves and has been fine ever since. Havent tried it on the 06 because that is all it has ever run. It's not matter of being cheaper gas, just what the fed's want. I run it in my 06 and my 99 cause that is all we have, we switched just before summer. I would call your tuner and ask about the effects of running ethanol gas vs "old gas" with their tunes.

Well, they replied to my email with the following:

Typically you will not make as much power with the cheaper fuel. There is not really bad effects on the engine just in performance
