Manual will be more fun, cheaper to buy, better gas mileage, cheaper to repair, make you look cooler to guys, make you look cooler to girls, allow more control and allow you to have more fun.

An auto will make you look lazy/dumb to men and women alike, allow you to not pay attention at all, all around more expensive, less fun, and allo less control over your car.

Don't go Girl-o-matic, go Manual.

1. only "more fun" if you're not in city traffic.
2. maybe cheaper to buy- but wait till you have to keep replacing the burned-out clutch if you get on it a lot.
3. maybe 1 or 2 m.p.g. better mileage- well, whoop dee doo (if you're that hard up for gas money, then better get a Civic or Prius!)!
4. "look cooler to girls"? how pathetic is that...?!
5. "look cooler to guys"? how pathetic is THAT...!!
6. driving a car in daily life isn't "rocket science"- need "more control" for what- going from the supermarket to the mall and then back home?
7. "an auto makes you look lazy/dumb to men/women alike"?
don't flatter yourself buddy- a trained APE could be taught to drive a stick in just a few easy lessons- do you really think that you've mastered a highly complex skill that requires superhuman hand/eye coordination?!
Let's just say that both the stick and "girl-o-matic" have certain advantages and disadvantages, and leave it at that.
JEEZ !!!

Yeah I don't care what anyone thinks either...but if you want proof of the mighty automatic, visit any racetrack where they're not racing civics and take a look in the racecars. They run automatics for a reason.
I've heard that numerous times; that automatics are what the pros run. Why is that? Does it have to do with the delay assocated with manuals and shifting? I know for me, the few times I've gone neck and neck with someone else, they lost some distance when they took it out of gear to upshift, whereas I was chugging along. I realize too that driver technique and experience counts for a lot. I know NASCAR cars are manual though. I know; I drove one in 2005. Does it have to do with weight?

The reason pros run automatics is cuz their cars are running on rocket fuel and are running 6 second cars...lol... yeah great analogy[8D] of the professional 2 speed racing transmission to the 5 speed automatics in the stang. Face it bro, both cars have their plusses and minuses. To compare an automatic in the stang to that which the pro's run is ludacris.

One reason they run them at the track is because an automatic is very consistant. Very good for bracket racing etc.

Also don't forget, auto's have more parasitic loss meaning less hp to the wheels, so that definitely plays into it[8D]
Yeah, but you can't outshift an automatic. I don't care how good you are at shifting.

Maybe, maybe not. My brother's Mustang has a 460 automatic with a stall converter and line lock. His front tires would always come up off the ground and he would run 10's. He took the automatic tranny out and put in a manual and his front tires never came up and he slowed to about a 12 second run. He said he couldn't get the traction off the line. Maybe he needs to work on his launches with the manual.

Wowsa. This could go on forever. Let's keep in mind that for our 2005-2007 mustang gt's, it's only an opinion and a preference. I have the manual and really dislike the auto in this car, but if I were in stop and go for hours I would love to have the auto.

To settle the debate, there will be no settling the debate. Please refer to the latest issue of MM&FF to see exactly what they came up with. For consistency, it is most common for bracket racers to go auto with a trans-brake. On the street or road-course, most will go with a manual for better throttle control and overall car control. You obviously have less control of the car with an auto.

All in all, everyone will have their own opinion. I prefer manual.

Nicely put... Its all a matter of preference. Both have their plusses and minuses. But, for me even though I live in metropolitan NY, I love my manual. Still, I got love for all my fellow stangers with automatics.
