Did Ford make some kind of ring and pinion change?

Did Ford make some kind of ring and pinion change?
I think I possibly read something about it somewhere or maybe I'm confusing it with something else.
The reason I ask is that I dropped off mine at the dealer this morning for "gear whine" at 45+ MPH on decel, and when I just came back in, there was a message from the service guy saying that they had to order a new ring gear and pinion, that if all went well, it would be there in the morning and my car would be ready tomorrow evening.
Wouldn't they just have made a backlash adjustment if the gears were OK? The car drove great other than the noise, which I never even noticed until about 2000 miles or so, when I finally turned the radio down for some reason, LOL. Oh, and it was the day or two after my 1st (and only so far) speedo burying run.

PS: If by any chance, you have "lost appreciation for" or just "gotten used to" your GT, hop out of it and into a loaner Taurus.
At the first red light, I was like OH ****, they gave me one with bad brakes, it's not stopping, LOL. No dude, those are just "normal car" brakes.
Then when I merged onto the interstate, I had it floored and was thinking WTF!?!? go, go, GO!!!
And last but not least, as I got closer to home on one of my fav curvy back roads it was OMG, you're going in a ditch or into a tree/pole if you don't slow the hell down.
My love for my girl hath been renewed!

Bump because this went to page 2 without a single answer...
I'm sure that some of you hardcore guys/gals must have the answer to this?!?!
I know I read something somewhere but my search on here yielded nothing.
Thanks,
Lance

its a Tsb it has nothing to do with backlash theres a problem with the ring n pinion aswell as the clutches casuing that moaning noise. theres no ring n pinion change there just replacing yours with updated parts n prolly some friction modifier.

Tonk, mine came with 3.31s, it's an auto.
NYFord: Whats' a TSB, you lost me there? So basically, they are just swapping my current gearset for a new one exactly the same?
Thanks,
Lance

thanks, right b4 I read this, I just so happened to read another post about the fuel filling problem, which I have as well, lucky me, and there was a link to a TSB there
you wouldn't happen to have a TSB number or link for the gear problem, would you?
Oh well, "The Transporter" is on so life isn't all bad

I'm going but not meeting with anyone in Frederick since I don't know what I'm doing that Fri night or Sat morning.
I will be joining up at Security Square Mall.

I would replace the whole ring and pinion too. You don't want to adjust/shim etc. Once the gears have worn a pattern, forget it, if you move anything they will continue to make noise. It's just the only way to do it.
