I know the results of this poll will be biased.
Yeah, what did the GTO forum say? Were they 90/10 in favour of the Goat?

ok look no matter what forum you go on it willb e bias. it is only going to be up to you i had this same struggle a few months back however it was an 04 GTO or a new stang.

you want a daily driver? the GTO maybe a bit heavier but handles like a dream virtually no body roll i was amazed when i drove it because you have this big car and it rode perfect, seats were nice however the dash was very boring, no retro style and shifter is loose. (not a big deal to throw a short throw in) if you have kids or want back seat usage skip on both and get a charger r/t because to be blunt neither the GTO or stang should have back seats they r virtually pointless well for me at least because im a big guy so my seat is always back. as far as pure daily driver with very little track in mind i say GTO i happen to find them to be semi attractive and can look good. it is hard to pass up that ls2 the ls based engine series make power very easily you can also swap in heads of a z06 vette for better power and they use a lot of the same engine parts. as far as parts rarity only issue will ebw ith body components, but you can always get stuff off ebay junkyards or austrailia. also all engine parts will not be rare. why? because it is the same engine that was in 98-02 camaros and 97-present vettes so so basic bolt ons to an ls engine will all fit they use same intake manifold and and throttle boddy only difference is displacement. the camaros are gone but you can still find parts for them.

Now as far as the stang goes it take it in styling interior and exterior. the power it lacks a bit and does not handle as well feels like a muscle car, with the body roll. much better for street/strip using a solid rear. and you have a bunch of goodies out there for stangs and the knowledge that they will never fade away. you have lots of companies dedicated to the s197 stangs and have many parts available.

now while i have had less to say on the stang it goes without saying because you have heard it all in previous posts. everyone on her is going to say stang and that GTOs are ugly but i know how you feel. and no one is going to think it is a grand am or grand prix unless they are 90 and if thats the case thenw who cares. you are going to get respect in both cars you have to drive them both one after antoher and decide for yourself what you would rather sit in every day. if you go with a stang tho take the cash you save yourself and put some mods on it, maybe a saleen s/c or some gears. and then you will be ebating GTOs.

final score....
GTO vs. STANG
handling: 9 6
style: 3 9
quality: 7 8
performance: 8 7
mods: tie (mustag has mroe mods, but GTO makes power better off bolt ons)
all in all you decide good luck

Yes, you guys are right. 90% here say stang and 90% at gto forum say goat. I have an '06 GTO and vote for the superior interior (even the corvette guys say the goat has a nicer interior then theirs, perhaps because made in Australia not Kentucky, who knows), the sleeper looks, and the monster LS2 aluminum 400hp, 400 lbs. of torque engine). A few have posted on here that the goats don't hook up very well do to wheel hop. Part of that is true. It is very easy to get over-zealous with 400 pound feet of torque. I have theautomatic 4 speedhowever, and do not have the wheel hop issues that the manual 6 speed guys got. The A4's have what Holden calls a launch mode that squats the rear end down do the ground and adjusts the camber of the tires for optimal launching conditions when the brake is held down and the throttle is pressed in to about 800 rpms. Nothing against the stangs, I've got 2 friends at work that have them. One has the GT 40th anniversary edition of the prior body style and the other has the current body style GT. We are all equally modded (CAI and a tune and that's it) and the stangs cannot keep up with me. Maybe off the line they make a game out of it, but the mid end and top end is all goat. I think the new stangs speedo only goes to 140? Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm sure you guys will. Our speedo goes up to 200 and I've personally had my goat up to 163mph several different times. In fact, do to wind drag, with the tune which disables the governor (car normally shuts off at 155) and the K&N 63 series aircharger CAI, that is the goat's top speed. It is nowhere near the 6500 redline, but at that speed, if you're not a fiberglass or composite wedge like a vette or a lambo or a ferrari or have ungodly horsepower like a bugatti veyron, you're not going to go much faster then 160 in anything. I think the GT500 maxes out in the high 160's low 170's, not exactly sure on the numbers. Now that stang is faster then us for sure, but it doesn't act like it has 100 more hp then us. I've been beat on the interstate by one, but only by a few car lengths and after he got out in front he did not pull away, we paced each other. I pulled up beside him after he eased up and gave him a thumbs up and he just sneared at me, I'm sure it pissed him off that his 50,000 dollar stang barely beat my 34,000 goat. In response to another post I saw on this thread, we really do have ALL SORTS of aftermarket modding options. Just as much as you guys do. It just costs money. Money that I don't have right now. I just bought the optional front fascia extension (I already bought and installed the optional grill inserts as my pictures show) and am saving up to have it painted and installed. It makes the front end look less sleeper looking/grand am looking as you guys call it. Bottom line is, the interior is nicer then a stang (all leather and suede, no cheap plastics), they are faster, they got a factory in-dash 6 disc changer standard, and you only see one of them to every 300 stangs on the road. I like being in an exclusive club, I just took a one weektrip from the gulf coast of Alabama up to Chicago and back and I only saw 3 GTOs the whole time I was gone. As far as the stangs went, I lost count after 1,000. That's my .02.

Want to be NA then get a GTO and build it up
Want to be SC then get a stang and build it up.

IMO the stang looks better though. but LS2is nasty NA power.

The GTO looks even less like a sports car then the mustang GT. In addition the mustang GT stock vers the GTO stock is nearly an even compare in regards to performance. The GTO has the edge but I can live with that since the mustang looks better in my opinion.

As for after market, I'm not big into that but from what I have seen it will cost more to mod the GTO.

I also agree that the GTO will be a lot more difficult to repair since its no longer in production.

So I would go with the mustang. If you want to wait a year or 2 then you can choose from the mustang or camero.

Like most I'm a bit biased but when it came to the overall package I went with the Mustang. The GTO's have great power and sound awesome with cams but that is about it for me. The styling lost me and believe it's a big reason they stopped making them...not many were buying them. It may be possible but I've never seen a GTO with wide tires in the rear as the openings just look very small. Again, it may be possible but I've just never seen them.

I say Mustang as the sky is the limit for what you can do with them mechanically and cosmetically.

I like the GTO. Stock it is a beast! But then I beat up on my neighbor's 06GTO with my 08 Steeda. Mind you my Steeda is not stock but it is not Super Charged either!. At least not yet!

I don't see how you can go wrong with either. Although being it is a limited production run and aftermarket options are probably more limited than a Mustang.

I wanted to get my wife a GTO but she ended up with an 08 Limited Edge.
