Default Mac Axle-Back Impressions

I installed these about a week ago and have since formed a pretty strong opinion of them. I wanted to put in my $.02 for anyone thinking of buying these...

The good: nice finish, quality look, deep muscle car sound, reasonable price IMO. They sound terrific from outside the car and are decently louder than the stock muffler. Cranking up the car in the garage almost sounds scary.

The bad & the ugly: these thing DRONE like nothing I've ever heard before. I went out today for a cruise and after about an hour was ready to pull over and take them off on the side of the road. The drone going at lower speeds (20-40) especially up hills when the car is under load is ridiculous. I had to keep yawning to pop my ears, and even found myself dipping or releasing the throttle at times because the note was too uncomfortable to listen to. [&:]

I've had several "weekend toys" in the past, this Mustang is just one in a looong series. I'm no stranger to performance cars or modifying them... I've always modifed exhaust on my cars and I've had several Trans Ams, Camaros, Mustangs, etc. These things take the cake for drone. I'm pretty disappointed in them from that standpoint. They really do sound good, but I still have a light headache about 2 hours later. [:'(] Anyway, I think I'm going to spend the extra money and go the Corsa route. I'll be putting these up on eBay next week, or if anyone here is interested PM me. They have about 100 miles on them...

Believe it or not, some people (not me) actually LOVE drone. These are the same people who lose their hearing at age 32.

hehe, yeah, I have a feeling that the drone they claim to love isn't really DRONE per se. I have no problem with hearing the car in general. What I'm talking about is the exhaust hitting certain notes that actually make you feel crappy physically and vibrate your head, lol. You could use my car as a torture device if you just drove uphill at about 30mph for hours on end.

I have had my MAC Axlebacks for over a year now and love them. They only drone around 1800 RPM and if I speed up or slow down a bit it goes away. Not an issue for me.

I almost ordered the axleback but decided on the Boom Tube. I hope they're not the same.

Yeah I'm sure the auto doesn't help as it likes to run right in the range where the drone is the worst. I searched around yesterday and found several others complaining of the same issue, some of them with manuals. The mufflers sound great, but they've gotta come off... Maybe I'm just getting old, lol.

BWAHAHAHAHHA.........that is a perfect write up describing the MACs. If MACs didn't drone, they would be by FAR the best sounding exhaust system for this car.

I loved them so much that I had to figure out a way to keep them though, so I listened to CrazyAl (almighty god) and had Kooks Custom Headers install their Kooks Race Mufflers (resonators) after the H pipe. They still dronea tad bit but NOTHING compared to that nauseating sound they had when they weren't paired up with resonators.

The drone was so bad that I almost fainted a few times........I'm serious. I'm very happy now that I put the resonators on because I have the MAC sound with little to no drone. Plus, the resonators have added this exotic tone to them that make me wet. Good luck!!!
