Default Cams...?

I am looking into Stage 3 cams by Crane Cams. Do you need to buy new valve springs and steel retainers when upgrading cam shafts in the car? Anyone have cams done to the car? Big difference in hp? Is a dyno test and tuning required?

Stage 3 Cams by Crane Cams
Dynatech Supermaxx headder and catted xpipe

both coming within the next month...! any suggestions?

you need new springs and retainers with new cams...i have not done cams to my car but bbr's website has a vid and a list of mods made to their car and it made a little over 400 hp...i dont think a dyno is needed (i am not sure about that though) but it is highly suggestedif i am correct

gas mileage is going down the drain for you though...but its all for a good cause

Most likely you will need new springs and retainers if the cams are "stage 3", normally stage 1 and sometimes 2 don't need to replace the springs and retainers because they are a lot more mild of a cam.

I have CompCams stage 3 and needed new springs and retainers, but know this your labor rate is going to double easily with our stangs being 3v. That or you could invest in all the tools and do it yourself, which I chose not to do considering this is something I didn't want to do myself. The valve springs/retainer install is probably the only install I didn't want to do without experience.

Did you need to upgrade the gear ratios? I already have 3.73 gear ratios. Is this good enough for stage 2 or stage 3 cams?
