Default Running rich after tune?

Just filled up with 93 and put in the 93 tune for the first time (canned SCT tune for now - plan on B ama tune later). After one day driving about 40 miles, there is black stuff inside my exhaust tips. Does that mean I'm running rich? If so, what are the consequences of that? Should I tune back to stock for now?

The black is normal and yes you are running rich. I would get the B ama tune ASAP. Rich is far better than lean and the "canned" tunes are going to be rich because that is safe. They dont take into account anything you have on the car either so that might have a little to do with it. With Dougs tune you will be runner on the rich side but closer to the optimal point where the car should be.

thanks. weird thing is the 87 sct tune didn't cause any black stuff.

i don't have any performance mods yet, so i thought i'd try the SCT canned tunes. not real impressed - still more throttle lag than I'd like. cai and b ama will happen soon.

so running rich isn't bad for the car, just the wallet?

Correct and yes the canned tunes are really crap compared to the custom tunes from brent or doug. People just dont realize how bad the canned tunes are until they try a custom tune.
