Default clutch issue?

Okay so this has happened a few times. This is my first standard car and im not sure what a "slipping clutch" feels like... unless its just as described.

Today as well as a few other days when i start the car cold first thing in the morning, I bring it down the street and stop at a stop sign. I start to apply gas and release the clutch and i feel in my foot the clutch kind of jerking before it releases? It is really hard to describe. I guess I would also say it feels like its sticking before it wants to release...i dont know.

Has anybody else experienced this problem???

I think what your feeling is the (marcel)?Correct word?, in the clutch disc. It's a design that reduce shock in the engagment. The disc is not completly flat it has a small wave pattern,it acts like a spring when being compressed to make engagment smooth. But when your clutch is cold it will grabdiffrent than when hot,so your probably feeling this in the morning while letting out slow, the wave part of the clutch plate just starting to touch then engaging.Just some input on what it could be.

Let you car warm up for a couple of minutes to see if that helps.

I agree. I highly doubt with mods you have - you're burning through anything. Make sure you let it warm up and make sure you completely depress the clutch when shifting and I think you'll find it better.

Just to add a side note, when I start to go, I don't really "get on it hard." I just go normal until the motor warms up before i get on it at all.

Let it warm up before you move it. If you are like me, you move slow when you first get out of bed.

Yeah I think I have the same thing happen every once in a while. Eleanor06, great info on the clutch design; that was news to me.

Just to add, does it feel like it's grabbing and/or stuttering a little (basically not a smooth engage)? Does it happen more when it's wet out? I seem to have a rather annoying problem with my cluth when it's really wet out; it is has a very discrete engaged/disengaged feel, which makes it almost impossible to get a smooth start with it. I have even tried letting the clutch out slowly at idle, and it will still be very jerky until it "dries out".

Hopefully I haven't hijacked this thread too badly....didn't mean to [&:]
