Default Supercharger and Engine Timing Question

I plan on getting the Whipple supercharger for my 07 GT next month. I done a fair amount of research on the forum and have noticed people talking about the timing, 15 or 20 degrees. What is the stock timing and does the timing get advanced or retarded when a supercharger is added to a car? And what is considered a relatively safe timing for a whipple blown car?

Thanx

wow great questions and great choice on
the whipple.

i haven't a clue about the timing or really anything
else for that matter, i'm just the grease monkey who's
bolting on a whipple to my 06.

it will be very nice indeed, if it starts up after all of this!

The appropriate timing is the most you can throw at it before going lean. It's different for every car. Canned tunes are conservative because of variations in air temperature and density in different areas. Anyone installing a blower is best advised to do a dyno tune. After spending 6k, it's a sound investment. You would be pulling timing out of it, btw.

A speed shop I go to just installed a Whipple on a 2005 Mustang Automatic. They had to send the PCM to Whipple for programming as part of the install. I believe this has to be if Whipple is going to warranty the product. Made 440rwhp on the dyno jet.
