600 AMG Smoked Question
interesting, was going really slow next to a fine looking driver in a powder blue vw bug convert both with our tops down, going slow, so black mercedes 2 dr pulls up next to me and says he wants to go. so i rolled back when we both side by side at a red light (still with cars in front), didnt get all letters but he had 600 on the left, AMG on the right (at the rear trunk) 2 door hardtop, looked like it had rear seats. So i think im gunna get smoked but what the heck, next light, couldnt get in front of traffic but was talking to this guy (he about 23 or so). he said he had 400 hp. then we FINALLY side by side, i on the left, i ride clutch in first to 6100, then just slam into 2nd with the joyous scream of the rear tires maintaining 5700 or 6000 rpm the whole time. gained several lenghts on him, this guy was shocked, i have to turn left so put on blinker and stop to turn. he stops next to me and says wow you got me there, i told him nice car (and now the powder blue bug caught up and is honking at us from behind to move - - probably because we forgot all about her now) and i told this guy i have to go left, we say good bye . . . .thats that. Did this guy just not know how to drive? think too could be that mercedes has those awkward shifters on the steering wheel column that cant compare to a stick. maybe he didnt take the AMG out of old fogey mode (they have super advanced computers with tons of settings). He must have been ready though because but he approached me looking to run (I was busy going from light to light next to the bug - remember?). We all know when you expect something to happen always take off TCS. I bet if we switched cars i could take him. go figure.

Sounds like you raced an SL500 that was rebadged to look like an AMG. If it had 600 on one side and AMG also it would have to of been rebadged because the SL600 isn't an AMG. Only the SL55 and SL65 are. The SL600 has a twin turbo V12 with like 500hp and 600ft/lbs torque. The SL55 has over 500hp and the SL65 hasover 600hp.The SL55, SL600,and SL65 would have no problem destroying you even if the guy left TC on and gave you a head start. They are all auto's and are very simple to drive. I would bet that it was an SL500 because I have raced those before and pulled easily like you did.

it wasn't an amg,they are super fast,unless he really sucked at driving.not just sl55 and sl65 are amgs.theres like 6 to 8 that are ranging from 380 hp to over 600 hp.even the suv that is shaped like the rand over(forgot the name)has a amg that has 400 hp.we might be able to keep up with that little mersedes roadster(has like 380)and the suv(its heavy)that has the amg but the others unless were supercharged,forget it.

If your your stang isn't charged stay away from Mercedes-Benz with the letters AMG and away from BMW with the letter M.
If it had REAR seats it's not an SL nor an SLK.
Probably a CL or a CLK.
I raced against a CL600 once, it was an older version, i think from 1998.
So i thought, hah, i can take this old-timer. We raced from trafficlight to trafficlight and were dead even consistently. I looked it up later on the net and seems it has a V12 powerplant and is pushing 385hp.
That was a 1998 version! Today's versions probably have crazy horsepower, combined with german engineering, makes for a vewwwy vewwwwy fast car.
Oh well,..Mustangs still rule!

the 600 is a V12.... there is a two door coupe 2+2 version CL600 I think. The older ones are fat and slow..... big cruiser coupes. The new one is 510-horsepower, 612-pound-foot twin-turbo V-12. 0-60 in about 4.5 so you probaly hit on an older model.
