Default loading a tune question

I have an 06 GT, which i bought out of state, used(10,686 miles) My Question is this, if this car has a different tune, other than the stock, will i be able to load a custom tune on it without causing trouble?? would this not be the same situation as getting it back from dealer and they had reflashed the computer?? Is there a way to tell if i have an after market tune in the cp??
I really don't think it has an aftermarket tune , but better safe than sorry.

I am not a pro with the tunes..... but I would recommend getting the xCal 2 (or something similar) and having it loaded with either the Bama or Brenspeed tunes. I am pretty certain that you can set the car back to its stock tune (or flash over it) with these handheld tuners. Someone else will chime in shortly, I am sure.

Congrats on the new ride!!

well the biggest problem i see is this:

unless you know someone with a tuner device, you have no
way to read the pcm code (strategy), since you can't
trust the pcm sticker at this point.

if you use the pcm code from the pcm sticker and load a tune, you
could disable the vehicle. you would then take the disabled
car to a ford dealership for a stock tune reflash.

my advice: take the car to a dealership now and have it flashed with a stock
tune. make sure you get the pcm code.....now you're on your way

good luck

If you have a custom tune and the previous owner didnt reset it I dont see how you could get it back to stock without having the dealer flash it. You'll need a handheld to read he strategy code and thats a MUST in your situation.I agree with moosetang call/email brenspeed or b.ama but I'm not sure they can help at this point.

the dealer wanted to charge me to reset my pcm, so I said screw you. It loaded my custom tune the previous owner had as the stock, and I put my custom b@M@ tune on...

the throttle response is simply AMAZING...I can start off from a light in third, yes third gear, probably due to the 4.10s and bolt ons, but still.
with stickier tires, the steeda complete cai with elbow, cmcv deletes, and dougs tune, I dropped .9 seconds off my 1/4 time. I think I can do more, but I lost my third gear syncronizer..
