supercharger advice-KB vs. Vortech
I will be getting a supercharger for my 06 Mustang GT with an auto tranny. I was talking with the speed shop that has installed some gears and UDPs for me about different options. He installs KB, Paxton, and Vortech. The mustang is a vert and is only on the road for half the year (damn New England weather) and only on nice days. It will probably never make it to the track. I just want to give it some more power. I an looking for a little over 400 rwhp.
He suggested the Vortech. $3750 plus $750 to install.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Ken

RE: supercharger advice-KB vs. Vortech
first off, welcome
now back to business...
#1 i can see by your track record that you do mods, then
quickly realize there's not enough power there and the
cycle starts again.
#2 you say now that 400rwhp is all you want, but as someone who
is s/c'd, that's a pipe dream
#3 here is what i would suggest:
get a supercharger that has future potential, meaning you can up the boost
on it when your engine can accomodate it.
pick from any of the s/c's out there, i don't care which one ya choose, just
get one you can build upon.....
i'm at 450rwhp and i think it's just right for a sunday, fair weather driver
good luck and keep us updated on your progress

RE: supercharger advice-KB vs. Vortech
I see from your sig that you've dealt with Brent before. I don't really have an opinion on which s/c, but if your dude installs customer-supplied parts and you decide on the paxton or vortech I'd order from brenspeed...I haven'ttaken the s/c plunge yetbut from what everyone says the tune is what makes the difference between killer results, so-so results, or just having your engine in several pieces. I'm sure you were impressed with your brenspeed tune, so trust them with your s/c + tune, unless your guy is adamant about you buying the stuff from him...
p.s. I'm from Connecticut, and one of the major reasons I moved to Florida was to buy a mustang and drive it year round, so I can relate to the six-month thing...

Needless to say that this topic has been discussed before, I'm not gonna tell you to (go look it up in previews topics) because it is still confusing. different opinions and different experiences but here is what I came up with:
Vortech:
Pros:
1) Cheaper.
2) SQ-Trim is very quit (they say).
Cons:
1) Complicated and harder to install (too many components).
2) Less torque.
KB:
Pros:
1) TORQUE.
2) Simpler and easier to install.
Cons:
1) EXPENSIVE.
2) Sound (I personally hate the whining).
So if money is not an issue and since you have a heavy Vert that you don't race go with KB. You'll love that instant and extra torque around town.
As for me I'm going turbo, if not it'll sure be a KB.
Good luck with your choice, both are great manufacturers
