Has to do with the way the tranny is set up, I believe the gearing on the auto is a little taller in 5th or something to that effect. Dont get me wrong 4.10's will work fine it's just a bettermatch with 3.73's, someone with more knowledge in that dept will chime in with a better answer to that question I am sure
