Default 95mm or 85 mm CAI?

Just a quick question: What is the real difference (if any) between the C&L 95mm (racer) plastic intake and the 85mm (street) aluminum inake? Is there any real power difference? Is one more functional than the other? I live in AZ where it gets REAL hot, so will one stay cooler than the other. I really like the looks of the aluminum better (even though Brenspeed chargers $50 extra for it) but want the best performance. Also, I hear great things about Bren and heard that RPM Outlet sucks, but RPM has the same intake and tuner for $150 less! What gives? Maybe that "free" Bren tune isn't all that free.

Dude, I have been looking around, researching the same thing for my car. From what I gather the "racer" intake flows 7% more than the "street" intake. I looked through C&L`s website and they don`t say the racer makes any more power. But do say that it is more capable of supporting a more highly modded engine.

The "racer" intake has the plastic inlet tube that doesn`t look as trick as the "street" aluminum tube, but is supposed to be more resistant to heat absorption and is lighter.

I`m going with the "racer" intake paired with an Xcal 2. I`m going to buy it from B@m@ Chips so I can have some custom tunes done. RPM Outlet has better prices, but I get the impression that they are the Wal-Mart of performance parts. You can get the parts cheaper, but you won`t get the real world "custom" tunes that places like B@m@ Chips and Brenspeed can offer.

But even if you bought the intake from RPM outlet, you can always use the canned performance tunes and buy some custom tunes later.

You'll find an exact answer here:

http://www.brenspeed.com/tech/compcams.html

The main subject is about cams but if you read it all you will know why they had to replace the "street" C&L with the "Racer" one.

Look at the Steeda CAI with Hi-Flow Elbow. It is a 90 mm CAI with the plastic tube...

A lot of people say that it is a really good intake. That is what I will get if I keep my car.

Thanks guys! Looks like the 95mm is better once you get beyond your basic mods. Think that is the one i'll go with since the "project" is never done!

I have the C&L Racer and IMO it looks alot better in person than the cast aluminum one anyway!! I seen a few of the cast aluminum ones and they just look dirty all the time, and we can't have that now can we?
